Do you use reviews to pick campgrounds?

I have noticed I simply won't use a RV park that has multiple negative reviews. I understand how unbalanced and one sided online reviews can sometimes be. A hundred happy customers come and go without posting a word, and just one grumpy geezer leaves an exaggerated complaint and it has the effect of destroying a park's reputation. I always read the park's response, when they offer one, and usually find the park's side more convincing.

Though I'm aware of the bias problem I still find that since I lack any other standard to compare them by, I'm putting a lot of stock in reviews. So that made me wonder how many others use them regularly and how much stock they give to them.

I use them as one of many tools, but only if the reviews are current. (Posted in the last 6 months)

A two or three year old review is worthless to me.

I certainly do. And I ignore negative reviews where it could be the poster who had the problem, not the campground.

Usually, but I like to use several different sites and tend to do my own filtering. And I have stayed at parks with poor reviews on one site when others have rated them better. In fact my biggest disappointments usually come from "highly" rated parks, not that any of them have been 1 or 2's but more like I can't figure out how they get 9's or 10's when in fact they are pretty average (good but average).

Yes !! As others have mentioned, fresh reviews give the best picture. Also it is fairly easy to spot the occasional vindictive reviewer who for some reason would likely not be satisfied no matter how nice the campground is. A pattern of low ratings does however have weight.

We use the AllStays app to spot campgrounds then look for ratings given by the AllStays users. Not many yet, but the app has a nice link to RVparkreviews.com

I post reviews on the app for every park we use. One thing that I will always mention is the accessibility for big rigs, and sometimes a tip on best way maneuver.

I do use reviews, but weigh out all the information and form my own opinion. If I see the same complaint from many different people that throws up a big red flag!

Yep, I check campground reviews.

I was actually a registered member on one Review Forum before finding iRV2:
Reviews of RV Parks and Campgrounds - RV Park Reviews

And did you know that "rvparkreviews" is part of the family of sites owned by the owners of iRV2:

Yes, always use them. Also I check to see how many reviews the post has. If it is only one or two, I firgue it is the owner or an employee. And I look back at older reviews also. Never hurts to really look them over.

When we plan our summer holiday we use rvparkreviews. More than a few of the better CGs fill up early. DW is sending emails in December. When we retire it will probably be a little less formal but for now with limited time we want to ensure things go well.....takes the stress out of the equation. Haven't had a CG that didn't meet our expectation.

I check the reviews, but I also try to find someone who has visited the site to get their opinion. I also use a few publications Woodalls, Big Rig etc. It's not fool proof but it is a start.

I use RV Park Reviews. I don't hold negative reviews against a CG unless that reviewer has lots of reviews. I do the same with positive reviews. Few reviews can mean the review is from the park management or the competition. I haven't been disappointed.

YES YES AND YES. I wrote for epinions for 14 years (a review site though campgrounds weren't a topic I still am a reader of reviews) and I know there can be bogus ones but for the most part yes and we have been luckily steered clear from some and found some right on ones.

Yes I do, especially Reviews of RV Parks and Campgrounds - RV Park Reviews
I also have quite a few reviews that I have posted there. I urge everyone to do the same

When using I weight the most recent reviews and tend to average the ratings by others. If I see one bad review and all others are good, I tend to disregard

I use them as well, and they can be very helpful, but sometimes you need to read between the lines. One site had a review that the staff was overbearing and that they were speed Nazis (their word, not mine) if you went over 5 mph. Well, it is a wonderful RV park, immaculately maintained, spotless facilities and it is very nice not to have cars zooming around. And the first time there I accidently knocked down a fence post, told them, was thanked for letting them know and never heard another word about it. We go there twice a year now.
