Does the overhead bunk switch drain the battery?

2013 Thor ACE 30.
My question is the bunk bed that is over driver and passenger is electrically controlled by a switch that has a key to turn on and off, to move the bed you push a button up or down. So if you forget to turn the key off and leave it in the on position does that drain your battery?

Only if there are indicator lights activated by the key. The big drain is from the motors that raise and lower the bed. I am guessing the key can be removed so no one can activate the bed when you don't want it lowered or raised.

Thanks Flinn, it boils down to the 2 house batteries that are new keep going dead on me. Have to get travel in it as we got it 2 months ago, and the house batteries were put in that day by camping world. After looking around and watching you tube, we found the neg. Cable was not connected to the frame. Sure hope that was it, but im not convinced.wierd thing was before we found cable issue we had just started the generator to turn on a/c, it ran for about 10 sec. Then everything shut off! No house power at all! Even blew breaker in our garage as it was plugged into shre power at the time. Checked everything, breakers, batt. Cables, fuses, ect. House batteries dead, had to start chassis motor to get gen to start back up.

I suggest you test your electrical charging system. With the shore cord unplugged, take voltage readings at the batteries with a multimeter. Charged batteries should be 12.7v. Then plug in your shore cord and take readings again. If the batteries now read 13.4v or greater, then you know both house and chassis batteries charge on your converter/charger. Next, unplug shore cord and start the engine. Take readings again. If house and chassis batteries show charging voltage, you know your system is performing as it should.

You may also want to see what phantom drains your batteries have. Disconnect one battery terminal and bridge the circuit with either an ampere meter or just a 12v bulb. Start pulling fuses until you see the light or meter reading drop. That circuit has the drain on the batteries when not plugged in.

Well the charging part is dead on, working as it should. No I have not done the draw test yet. New issue since then, but think I got it figured out. Rv was plugged into our home on a 15 amp breaker, cranked up gen. On rv to use a/c ran a few minutes then quit. Come to find out on this rv you must unplug shore power, as it tripped gen. Breaker and breaker in our home. ( took 2 times to convince me this is not going to work. Lessen learned. But ive read that some rvs can do this... oh well im good with it.

If you have an automatic transfer switch, (ATS) it should switch to generator from shore power without tripping breakers. It's not a good idea to have the A/C on while doing the switch over from shore power to generator, it puts a lot of amps through the ATS switch points. I always turn off the A/C before making a change of power sources.

If you don't have an ATS, then you have to physically plug the shore cord into the generator 30 amp outlet.

At no time should the power from your shore cord 'mix' with that of the generator. They very likely would be out of phase with the alternating current of the shore power, causing all sorts of issues. In a power failure, your generator could electrocute a lineman trying to repair the grid if it connects through the shore power.

When you connect to shore power, make sure all the breakers/fuses on your converter/charger are O.K., they might have been tripped if the two AC inputs were the problem.
