Dog bone question

I'm a newbie and not sure where to post this...

I have a place where I can camp in my mh on the weekends for free and the site has several outdoor outlets. They're all 20amps/120 so I was planning on pluging in my 30am mh and enjoy 1 a/c and tv.

Being told I needed a dog bone, I ordered a CAMCO on amazon and just received it. It's marked 15amp/30amp.

My question is, can i use this dog bone on the 20amp circuit? I called CAMCO and they didn't think i should but don't sell a 20amp/30amp dogbone.

Any body know the answer to this? If i did plug it in would the 20amp be stepped down to 15 amp or would it cause a problem to the mh circuity?

any responses appreciated-
Bud

I don't think it would be any problem. The dogbones do nothing other than adapt from one plug type to another. The only difference between a 15a and 20a outlet is the gauge of the wire feeding them. As to running an A/C unit, that may or may not trip a breaker feeding the outlet. If it doesn't trip it you won't have much amperage left to run much of anything else.

The answer is YES

The difference between a 15 amp plug (Standard wall plug) and a 20 is that on a 20 the Neutral is rotated 90 degrees

This is why the 15/20 amp outlets have a "T" shaped neutral slot.

No, it will not hurt the motorhome. and no, it will not "step down" the amps.

The outlet doesn't push amps into the RV - the RV sucks out whatever amps it needs, and that is governed by what appliances you use. The limit on what the RV can get from the outlet is governed by the circuit breaker, which presumably is 20A for those outlets. The dogbone you have, however, has wires large enough to handle only 15A without possibly overheating. Therefore you should restrict your power needs to 15A or less when using it. If you use the full 20A that is available, odds are the dogbone will get hot and, after awhile, melt the plastic around the plug. Not a good thing, but probably not damaging to the RV either..
