Dogs , lots of dogs
I will start with saying that the statement dogs are mans best friend is the gospel.
I do wonder while reading some of these forums if some people have grief getting an RV spot when they have like three dogs ? Seems like quite a few full timers have one or two dogs. What happens in these RV parks when the barking starts ? Is it a chain reaction ? I will not be full timing for a few years
and am just wondering. I know most would NEVER leave there best buddies behind as they are family. Do you all have much grief ? or is it just a matter of planning ahead ? And if you do not have pets and want peace and quiet are there much for "no dogs RV parks ".........My friend says the majority of RV parks gladly except dogs with the understanding they will be behaved or a lot of RVr's would tell them to stick it and business could suffer. I realize irresponsible pet owners would likely be disciplined but I would not want to get all setup in a nice place and here an excessive amount of dogs barking . Maybe a none issue.....?

There are responsibile dog owners, and the rest. I usually carry an extra wal mart bag with me and have handed a couple of them out. I pick up after our dog. They can pick up after theirs.
I would be annoyed by constant barking dogs for sure. I'm no prude, but I didn't go camping to hear the neighbor's dogs all the time.

We have three dogs - lab and two setters. We only do weekends a couple of times a month. We have not, so far, had any issues at parks with three dogs. One of the reasons we started "camping" was, among many other reasons, it was easier to travel with the dogs than without. We've had dogs in the past we would not have done this with, but happen to have been blessed with a really good little crew that isn't bothered by the sights and sounds of camping. Especially after the first day after wearing them out on hikes, fishing, rides, etc. We tend to stay at state parks (mostly Indiana). The hardest part for us is that we do not leave them alone in the trailer, so everything we do has to be dog friendly. The one week long trip we made to Gettysburg, we found a local doggy daycare ahead of time to take them for a couple of days while we did some not dog friendly tourism. While they are good and quiet when with us, I've not been willing to chance how they might behave when we're gone.

Every once in a while a nearby rv will contain a dog (usually small) that barks when the humans are absent. Otherwise, constant barking events are rare. Although our hound mix has been known to howl at an ambulance going by. Have found more loud noise coming from kids and adults than dogs.

Personally... I believe that the "number" issue should apply to the human children. Not the furry faced children.

I dread camping anywhere around a yapper dog. Many will act good around "Mama", but when their parents leave they go crazy.
I have a big male rottweiler, and he's the quietest and best natured dog you've ever seen. Unfortunately my campground doesn't allow them, pit bulls and chow chows--in the bylaws.
So I have a good kennel to take care of my big boy--spending $14 per night.

Dogs left in the RV and thier continuous yapping is by far and away the most common annoyance we have found as newbies (over 80 nights on the road this year). It can be 15 minutes, or hours of it......... So far I have yet to approach an owner, just not worth creating an uncomfortable experience. Just turn up the outside TV or music a bit to try and drown it out.
I'll take kids running around and having fun any day (or evening).
Of course, it is certainly not any of the iRV2ers.........

It's all about being a responsible owner.
I have two large Dobermans and camp with my dogs all the time. They are quiet, friendly and well behaved and well trained.
That said, my dogs stay in my space. I think (other than yapping, noisy dogs) the worst part of camping with dogs are the owners that insist on walking their dog past my campsite 3 times a day. I just find that rude. You want to camp with your pet, fine... just consider that other campers and people out walking are not interested in your pet. The only time you might hear my dogs is when someone walks their dog past my site.

This is not breed-bashing, just an observation: seems most of the annoying dogs that bark are the small ones. Big dogs will bark as warning and then stop. Little dogs just keep barking and won't shut up. There are good little dogs of course, but based on my observation the little dogs bark a whole lot more.
We have 3 big dogs and they love going camping. Never had any trouble, but have certainly had camping neighbors with little dogs that bark constantly until owners return. Very rarely have any big dog camping neighbors where the dogs caused any issues.
I would not use a no dogs camping location. For those that want that environment, have it your way.

I have 3 what you would consider smaller dogs. The motorhome was purchased primarily for dog shows but we do use it quite a bit for recreation. It is their second home and thus treated that way, when we are leaving them they are crated. I leave a radio or tv on just to drown out the outside noise. I always let my neighbors know and then inquire when I get back. I think people need to be more courteous in these situations. I just returned from the Elk Neck state park in Maryland great place!

I think it all goes back to being a responsible owner. We have had dogs all our lives, used to raise German Shorthaired pointers and Border Collies for a number of years, and now have two small dogs. We have never let our dogs bark, this habit is curbed from an early age.
One of my biggest pet peeves is the people who do not keep thier dog on a leash, I don't care how trained your dog is, it could be a top Obedience dog and I really don't care put it on a leash it's the rules.
Labor day weekend my wife and I were camping in a state park and taking the dogs for a walk when a Brittany Spaniel walked out to greet us from a camp site, the lady said "she's ok, she just wants to say HI" within two seconds she violently attacked my wifes dog, I quickly gave the dog a boot to the ribs to get her off my wifes dog and all the lady could say was " she's never done that before" I told her if it would have been on a leash this would not have happened.
Same day a young girl is walking her dog and stops at our camping area to let her dog do it's business in our "area" I offered her a doggie bag and she was confused, I explained she needed to pick up the "business" and she was mortified, I picked it up and gave her the bag and said you can deliver that to your parents.
I love dogs but can't stand irresponsible pet owners.

and that is a problem too. Dogs thinking they have ownership of the whole world.

Not looking to start anything but am confused on the above statement. While I wouldn't go into someone's campsite I don't understand how walking around the campgrounds is rude to other people. I have 2 Jack Russells that are quiet and well behaved, although I would not call them overly friendly. I keep them by my side and prefer other people and dogs not approach them. We like to go for walks and generally we have to walk past campsites to get to a trailhead.

You go to a campground that other people camp at and you find it rude that people walk their dogs past "your" campsite.... if this bothers you than maybe boondocking in some remote area would probably be a better choice for you.
I've done quite a bit of camping and seems to me that a lot of people go for walks at a campground. My wife and I walk our dogs regularly while camping, yes they are on a leash and we pick up after them, no we don't let them greet people while walking unless someone asks if they may pet our dogs, I fully understand most people are not interested in our pets like wise I don't like other peoples dogs running up to us while out for a walk, or dogs that are tied to a tree or picnic table barking wildly as we walk by, dogs that carry on like that need to learn some manners and socialization skills.
