Dome Satellite for Direct TV

I am looking to replace a KVH in motion non HD satellite and am looking for input before I make a decision. Either stationary or in motion. Please give me your comments.

Be sure that whatever you buy will also work on Dish Network! AT&T has plans to do away with the Direct TV transmissions that we have now in the next few years!

With Direct you can not receive high definition channels with a dome antenna. Not sure why either. When shopping you might, or might not, notice the mice type in the specs. Dish - HD & SD. Direct - SD only. If you want high definition you'll need something such as a Winegard Traveler.

Wasn't there something a few months back that Direct was dropping all their standard definition channels in the next year or so?

Direct TV HD requires the dish to "see" three satellites at once. No domes made can do that.
The old MotoSat HD dish and the new RF Mogul will both receive Direct HD though.

For Direct TV I recommend an open-face dish that can get HD satellites. You give up in-motion, but that really isn't a great value in most cases anyway.

Direct TV has already announced the end of SD broadcasts (by 2019 everywhere and many areas sooner).

AT&T has plans to do away with the Direct TV transmissions that we have now in the next few years!
That's not quite what they said. They will focus on streaming via "wireless", which means metro-area DTV customers will probably get their tv via non-satellite means in the future. Outside of metro areas, where high speed wireless is often not available, satellite will probably remain the only useful "wireless" method. AT&T stated they expect some uses to remain on satellite for a long time.

As a practical matter, I think Rvers should expect to see satellite services reduced as AT&T spends more of their money on other forms of wireless, specifically 5g cellular service.

We bought the Wingard Road Trip in motion dome for about $1,000 two years ago to replace our KVH SD in motion.

We use DTV SD and record programs or listen to Satellite radio while in motion with success.

Our Dome will also supposedly get Dish TV HD also. We have not used that feature.

If you do not use the in motion feature, the better option would be the Winegard Traveler antenna in my opinion.

The in-motion domes are only another $100 and the main benefit for me is being able to record shows while driving.
