Dometic Americana refridgerator problem
Went out to the motorhome the other day (parked beside the house) to get something. Opened the refrigerator to check it and happened to touch the part on the front between the freezer and Refridge door. It was hot, very hot. The fridge is turned OFF. The gas was turned off also but the MH was plugged in to shore power.
I don’t like this Dometic fridge control anyway as there is no way to set it to gas and override the 110 elec. On my previous Rv, I could turn it to ‘gas’ and it would not switch to elec unless I turned it to auto.
I took the outside cover off and unplugged the 110. Let it cool, then the next day, plugged it back in and it got hot again but was not cooling the refrigerator. Switch is still on 'OFF'. I think that part gets hot when it is on auto defrost, but that was weeks ago when I emptied the fridge and shut it off.

My 2 door dometic stopped working several months ago. I replaced it with a Haier from Lowes and could not be happier. We do not dry camp often. The Haier is almost the same size and fit perfect in the opening. An hour after turning on it is ready to go,
I never noticed that switch before, mine does not have the decal below it that says 'on' 'off'.
The short answer is that this switch should be "off" unless you notice condensation on the door frame.
