"Don't drink the water...."
Just picked up our new coach. The very nice man that performed my PDI said "Don't drink the water. Just plan to cook with and drink bottled water - you'll never get good-tasting water out of the fresh water tank...". Wondering what the rest of you think. We have a 2017 Thor Hurricane 31s (if that matters). Bought a water filter for the hose connection. Guess I'll also use it for the gravity feed when filling the tank.... Thanks all!

I've always used bottled water in all my coaches- it's just not worth the risk of someone getting sick.

There should be nothing wrong with the water if you put in good water.
First you should sterilize the tank by following the instructions included in the manual. I would fill the tank and run water through all of the faucets. Leave it sit for the required time and then drain and flush.
We fill our tank with RO water and use it for all of our requirements. Water is great from the tank.

As mentioned above, there is nothing wrong with or bad tasting from your fresh water tank. I fill mine with a filter and my ice cubes are made from the same water tank. I have no problem drinking the water from our tank and it has no strange taste either. I also fill plastic containers from campground water spigots when camping and use that for drinking water so we conserve the big tank if needed.

As long as you keep your water system clean and sanitary, there's no danger in drinking it. We drink the on-board water in our coach on occasion.
We also use bottled water in the coach for drinking, but that's because we're used to drinking it at home, too. Our home tap water tastes awful!

I sterilize my tank once a year with bleach as recommended and I also add the recommended bleach (from Clorox website) when filling the tank from unknown sources.
We make coffee and we cook and brush teeth, bathe and wash dishes with the water. We could drink the water but usually have bottled water for the convenience.
I try to avoid filling my FW tank when I know the water is not good, such as many Gulf Coast areas and anywhere the water does not smell or taste good.

We use our FW tank for drinking, cooking, etc.. our only deviation is we use spring water for coffee.
We sanitize the tank and piping system once a year.
Been doing for it for years with no ill effects.
Clean water in means clean water out.

Been RV'ing since 1957 and have never done anything but drink the water from the tank!

Growing up on a farm drinking well water from the hose, not knowing that the hose color meant anything in particular.

We full-timed for 16 years traveling constantly and therefore got our water from various sources. We had a filter going into the RV and a kitchen sink filter. We never sanitized our tank but then, we used it every day of the year so the water always stayed fresh. We used the tank water for everything - drinking, cooking, coffee, dishes, showers. We never got sick from it. Use your tank water and don't waste money buying bottles. Can you imagine how much water we'd have to buy over 16 years? Yikes!

Of all the things on the list of things that will kill ya, I suspect drinking out of an RV water tank is pretty far down.
As said, if it is your system and you maintain it properly, just think of it as a BIG bottle of water!

I sanitize the tank a couple three times a year.
There is a filter on the RV.
We use bottled water for drinking and cooking.
YMMV.
