Driving the Blue Ridge Parkway in a motorhome

It seems that the National Park Services encourages RV's on the Blue Ridge Parkway since they have at least 2 campsites right on the BRP for you to park your RV in. You won't have hookups, but there are spots for some pretty big rigs with some pull throughs. Cost is $15 or $7.50 with one of the passes. We did a pull through that would easily accommodated our toad without unhooking. Just be aware that these campsites are in high demand.

Drove it from end to end last September in our Coachman Leprechaun Class C. There are many pullovers to let traffic pass but not necessarily just at the tunnels. It is so twisty that you don't see the tunnels till the sign and you are right on top of them by then. Day 1 was from Cherokee, NC to Ashville and all the lowest tunnels were on that stretch. Day 2 was from Ashville, NC to Fancy Gap, VA, Day 3 was from Fancy Gap to Staunton, VA. Can say I did it but wouldn't do it again especially in the Class A Allegro Open Road 31SA we have now. Beautiful drive but tough on the driver. Be very wary of low limbs hitting the roof and encroaching bushes on the mirrors. Road surface around Roanoke was horrible. Also be wary of jumping off and on the parkway as there is limited access and many of those are very steep and windy mountain roads not suitable for an RV of any sort. I way folks on the BRP with big 5th wheels and Class A's bit it isn't an enjoyable drive when you get that big. They did it so it is doable. I was exhausted at then end of each day. IMHO the best option is to stay at a campground along 81 and drive the parkway in your toad.
