Dumb question about rain

I am relatively new to the RV life. We are heading out tomorrow and there are thunderstorms in the forecast for our destination. Can we still hook up to power in the rain if we use an umbrella?

By switch, you mean the breaker switch where you plug in?

Yes.

Also, do you have a surge protector?

If you don't know the answer, the only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

Enjoy your trip!

Not just for rain. Standard procedure, Turn off breaker plug in, turn breaker on. Reverse when disconnecting. Sometimes a good Idea to turn power off in a thunder storm even with a surge protector, they are only good for so much surge and a lightning bolt is a bigger one.

Got lucky and it was not taking when we got here. Hopefully, the thunderstorms will pass around us. So far, so good.

Well, I wouldn't be standing in a puddle when I plugged the cord in or turned on the breaker. Normally it wouldn't be a problem but there is that 1 in a 1,000,000 chance that it's miswired!

I would add a good weather radio to my equipment. They are easy to set up and we do set ours up for the specific county we are in. A quick look at the atlas and we know how close the severe weather is to us. I know it does not have anything to do with your question but since you mentioned possible severe weather, I thought I would comment on this. As fulltimers, a weather radio is an essential piece of equipment. And it will work when you have poor cell service.

Great idea. I will add it to my wish list.
