I pretty much trust any expirey date on Dairy products! One of the worst tastes I've ever experienced was taking a swig of chocolate milk right out of the carton. You guessed it...past the expirey date. I think that was the day I started watching for it!

Orange Juice

Orange juice wasn't mentioned previously but it is very perishable. Ignoring the expiration date can result in a very unpleasant 24 hours. This is the voice of experience talking. Rushing to the facility every 10 minutes isn't much fun.

I was drinking a diet Coke last week and it tasted real bad so I opened another case we had stored in the MH to find the same problem. We only had them for about 4 months so it did not occur to me to check the date. I called Coke and was asked to check the date which turned out to be about a year old. They wanted to know where we purchased them and they did an investigation and sent us a credit for the two cases. So apparently some of the new sweeteners go bad very fast and boy when they do it can have a foul taste, in this case it is aspartame. We now check those dates much more carefully.

You're not kidding Diet Coke can go bad. Usually, it has to be well out of date for that to happen. The date on the package is a sell by date so the product is still good for a while after the date.

When I worked for a convenience store, I had to watch the soda vendors to make sure they rotated their stock. Even then, we usually had send quite a bit of expired merchandise that wouldn't have expired if they had just kept it rotated. The delivery and sales people work on tight schedules so they take shortcuts every chance they can.

My family had a cabin on the Kootenay Lake since my father (now passed) was a boy. We sold it a few years ago....but I recall the last few visits. We always brought fresh food when you went to the cabin, but there was a lot of dry good packed up and left for use each time. I had "cup-o-soup" last time I was there (2004-5?) that had a "packaged on" date from 1973! Hahaha....I'm still here. There was Worcestershire Sauce and Tobasco there that was 20yrs old too and it still made a nice ceasar!

I keep an eye on that all the time. When we packed the moho for the summer outing I cleared out the pantry in the basement and not in the moho. It went in the trash. As we age I see we make less trips to the basement when we return from the grocery store. There in fact things do tend to get looked over I guess. Took a look at a couple of bottles of salad dressing, pretty disgusting to say the least.

Or exposed to a lot of heat, such as that in a hot truck. At least, that's what I've heard.

When I was in the USMC, back in Camp Pendleton around 1968 we were eating C-rations that were made for the Korean war. It appears canned things can last awhile. We were in training and almost always ate them cold. Ham and Lima beans the most hated.

i will not touch expired mlk etc.

But expired turkey slices for sandwiches is good in a turkey and rice meal if cooked. You really need to think about what is growing in the "food"

She would be appalled if she ever joins the Navy, I remember once inventorying the contents of life raft survival packs in the early 80s and found packaged on dates from the 50s
