Dumping

Went on 2nd excursion this weekend, stayed at a koa with full hook-ups. Our first trip was not full hook-ups so used dump station, after dumping used the non-potable water to run through dump hose. Here's my question, before leaving today I emptied my tanks but decided not to use the water spickit I was hooked up to so as not to cross contaminate the water source, was this right and do you clean your hose afterward so as to not contaminate?

90% of campgrounds will have a sign next to dumping station that says not for potable use. If you wash out your sewer with a hose, most campgrounds provide the hose. I never use my drinking water hose to clean anything sewer related. I always use the campgrounds.

If I dont have a hose to rinse hose out after use , then I dont rinse it. The last thing that went through it was gray water anyways. Plus I dont store my sewer hose near any of my things. Or wait till home to clean it.

Yep,, we learned here,, empty the black water first,, (ours are seperate connections) then I empty the grey tank,, always ends up having nice soapy suds in the hose...
After re-reading your post,, how could you cross-contaminate the water supply by using the water hose (white one) to spray inside the drain hose ?? Other than actually sticking it inside ???

Not sure, just want to be safe. Since this is our first M.H. I just want to make sure that what I am doing is correct. I do dump my black water first then the grey.

Hoses are cheap, I have two hoses of dissimilar color so not to cross use. My potable hose is only for clean water, I use the other for everything else.

A white one for clean drinking water, green regular hose for everything else.

Whew! At least you asked. I always carry a 50/50 spray bottle of bleach and water just in case the previous occupant didn't know and didn't bother to ask. I spray everything before hooking up. Can't be too careful these days. I've heard too many stories about rinsing the "stinky slinky" with the water spigot or rinsing it across the picknic table.

Like vsheet and others have said. White hose, labeled for potable water use is only ever connected between spigot and fw inlet in coach. When not in use I have thread on end caps to keep dirt and critters out of it.

Green hose is used for clean up of everything NON potable and to connect to black tank sprayer. I use a 'Y' connector at the spigot and just just make sure the arm connected to the white hose is OFF when connecting the green hose to the tank sprayer. Could get fancier with check valves, but they can fail.

I use the outside shower faucet to rinse my hoses. If you have one, it is easy to use and provides little or no chance for contamination.

I also have 2 hoses of different colors, although the 2nd has not been used yet due to the fact this is only our second time out. Thanks for your reply.

I agree with the majority. I only use my white hose for connection to my fw inlet. I use a spliter on the fresh water connection and connect the white hose from that to the fw connection and connect my gray hose from the splitter to my sani-flush. I flush the black tank each time I dump it, then empty the gray water and galley tanks through the stinky slinky to clean it after dumping the black tank.

I close my gray and galley tanks the day before dumping my black tank so I have water build up to use for cleaning the stinky slinky.

I use the white hose for filling the potable water tank, only. We also have a short (2') gray hose that is used the flush out the black water tank. We also have a 'anti back flush' valve installed on the water out let on the MH.
Never can be too caucious!

You are getting good info on the hoses. I suggest you do as the earlier respondent says, and keep a 50/50 bleach solution spray bottle in the service bay. I spray faucet and then run water to 10-20 seconds to flush out rust, bugs, dust, etc before hookup when we arrive. After dumping I spray sewer drain area, dump hose end, and service bay. Once hoses are stored I give the faucet a quick shot for the next guy.
