Easy, simple and non permanent way to add LED light to your RV Porch Light

Thought others might like this method.
Adds LED outdoor strip lighting to your RV using the existing porch light.

Makes for a clean non-permanant install that looks good with no loose wires or bits and bobs hanging that need to be plugged in every time you unpack.

Use your existing 12v porch light and light switch, and use it for LED lighting

About an hour of time, and less than $50 in material.

Didn't even think about that ! I have a strip like that one installed on my home's porch (not the RV yet). I wasn't in a hurry so I got mine from China on eBay. Ordered a roll of LED lights for $5 or $6 and the controllers are about the same price or less. Shipping used to take months from China and Hong Kong but now it's usually less than 2 weeks.

The price for the 300 LED kit with 5050 Leds (weatherproof) is now $25 with remote, DC and AC power supply. Using the expensive 3m outdoor tape the whole thing is still less than $50

I'd recommend the weatherproof/weather sealed ones. and the 5050 Leds are the newer generation that are brighter. (you can always dim them if too bright)

I might do the underside of my motorhome with a LED strip tied into the step light now as well.

Double check the polarity of your light sockets as well. My inside ones (for testing purposes) were wired correctly, but when I moved outside they were backwards!

A pre-wired 1141 light socket with bare wire leads (at least I think its bare wire and no chips inside) I just ordered one to check.

I'm converting my sticks and bricks to LED.

One nice thing about LED lights is that they don't attract bugs.

I've replaced one bulb in the coach that I can leave on when I'm not hooked up to shore power and not have to worry about it running down my batteries.
