Electric bikes?

Hello,

Do any members here use electric bikes? Do you like them? Are they more difficult to peddle when the battery dies?

What make do you have? Does anyone have an electric mountain bike?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

electric bikes

Yes they are great to have around!!!! My wife and I bought the Hilltopper (Clean Republic) brand from Seattle Wa. And we LOVE them... You use your own bike and all you do is replace the front wheel and run the wires to a battery and switch.. Done in 20 minutes.......Check out their webpage....and if you change bikes you still have the Hilltopper...Hill Topper Electric Bike Kit, Electric Bike Batteries: Electric-Bike-Kit.com

I researched them, but have opted to spend my $1000 on a motorcycle instead just my choice...

I had 2, 500 watt, front wheel, Golden Motors, EBike kits.

I put them on Wal-Mart mountain bikes in 2007 and 08.

I used a 25AH, 36 volt, lifepo4 battery for mine, since I had bad knees, and 20 AH for the DW. We both weigh over 200 lbs.

We used them, as our transportation, for 5 years, while cruising the east coast. We also had a, 2 child carrier , for grocery shopping.

The front wheel added some weight to the bike, but being a direct drive, hub mounted, brushless motor, it added no resistance.

I believe our longest, battery killing, trip was 16 miles, at the full speed of about 15 mph. We recharged at a friends dock, and returned to ours.

During one of our Eria Canal rides, we traveled over 30 miles, during an all day ride, before recharge. Of course, we did save power, by pedaling, while using the electric to assist, and the canal trail is flat.

Due to salt water exposure, we retired the bikes and stored the wheel kits, last year. We have been settling down in the Keys, for the winters and keep a car with us.

If you are in good shape, I would recommend the 250 watt, rear wheel kit and 15 AH battery, from Golden Motors.

Enjoy

I tried them but found them too slow and inconvenient with the recahrge required so we have had for 8 years now a Piaggio Fly 150, both of us easily at 60 mph for 120 miles before a $5 fillup.

Their numbers are increasing in our neighborhood, including an electric tricycle. Most are rear wheel drive, and seem to have been purchased as electrics (except for the trike), as they don't look like regular bikes.

We bought two of the best e-moto ones they had$$$$$ the batteries started giving up on both of them at the 1&1/2 year mark and we're just really heavy bikes after 2. We replaced them with 2 regular bikes and are happier.
Live and learn.
