Regardsless of the physical size most are about 1500 watts or between 13 to 15 amps depending on the voltage at the time. One electric heater and you have used up 1/2 of a 30 amp electrical service. That does not leave much reserve to run the microwave, lights, tv etc.

Most outlets in an RV are on a 15 amp circuit so you would want to be sure it is one that does not have anything else plugged into it. Even a desk lamp could put you over if plugged into the same circuit as the heater/fireplace.

It can be done but helps if one is aware of the limitations.

The only thing I plug in, in my RV, and leave on all the time - or leave plugged in all the time, are the TV and the stereo system. It's too much trouble to unplug them. The things that are plugged in only when I'm using them, are a coffee pot, printer, laptop, my cell phone to recharge it, a toaster, and a can opener. And I never use them all at one time and ALWAYS unplug them when they're not in use . . . . oh - and the heater

If I'm using the hair dryer, nothing else is plugged in OR on . . . as it's only a 30 amp rig and if anything else is on when the hair dryer is on, the breaker flips . . .

I am looking into an Autoformer though, Neil. Thanks!

Then all you really have to be careful of is that you don't choose the circuits that power the refridgerator, house battery charger/12 converter or the Stereo/TV to plug the fireplace into.

The built in furnace is safer to leave running than a plugin heater .Having the plug getting hot is an indication of a loose connection.
