Lightbulb Elko, NV

Anyone been to Elko, Nevada? Any thoughts, comments, concerns, etc? We bought two properties near there and will be visiting in June.

Its been a few years, but what I remember there wasn't much there. A couple of small casinos and a few other things. Could have changed since 2007.

I ran a load to Elko several years ago. I remember a casino and a sewage treat plant. That help?

Went through Elko three times in 2010 while doing cross country trips. Typical Nevada interstate town.

Elko Convention and Visitors Authority, Elko Nevada

A friend of mine bought the finest set of browned, silver inlaid, california rowls spurs I've seen near there.

I am sitting in my RV,on my property outside Elko right now. Elko has a Wal-Mart, a Home Depot, al the usual fast food places, two great super markets not including Wal-Mart, Ect.

The mining concerns have made the Elko one town that never went into a financial funk lately .

Tell me the area you bought in, and I'll give info on it. Many "Ranches" in the area.

Well...it's about 17 miles east of Elko on I-80 and north off the interstate. It's totally undeveloped...at least mostly.

Thanks,

Gale, Leizza, Jonathan, Josef, Johannes

That would be Exit 314. There is a Gas station W/store there and there is quite a few homes nearer the interstate. Further back, or up on the hill it is mostly undeveloped, and the roads may, or may not be there/developed.

It is a clay based, or I should say it IS clay everywhere here. If you don't like dust, lot's of luck.

I was there for 6 months back in 1994 working for Newmont Gold in Carlin. Elko and the surrounding area is a nice place most of the year. Gets pretty cold in the winter. It has everything you could need. South and East out of town are many larger properties and ranches, school, churches, etc... I think it was 20 to 25K people back in '94. Can't believe is smaller than that now...

Regards, Howard

We go thru Elko every year on the way to Montana Hunting/Fishing. Nice Nevada town, I believe it is the third largest "city" in Nevada. Seems to have everything necessary to survive. When you go there be sure and eat at the Star Hotel. One block off the Main street and near the Post office. They are Basque (sp) and serve family style. Some of the best range fed steaks you will get. On the week ends there will be a wait unless you get there early. I believe they open the dining room at 5.
Good Luck on your investment. Hope you got a long time to recoup your $$$ as there is a LOT of rangeland around Elko. Also I believe they have the cowboy poets festival there in the late summer/fall. Always wanted to attend that. Never have. Enjoy

I lived in winnamucca for a while, my BF at the time worked a gold mine in Elko. Small place then. (90's) Loved it though. Learned to drive in the snow there.

I guess info from 1986 would not be very current.
