Yesterday we removed the tube TV and disassembled the huge honking Winegaurd box. We found, sorted and labeled all the cables, the satellite wasn't even hooked up to anything.
Anyway here's where I could use some guidance.
In the big honking box there is an antenna booster, also wasn't connected to anything. I'm assuming the main antenna line should go into this and then the out line to the switch box to the antenna port, correct? When does one use the booster?
I also bought a Wally receiver, now I'm thinking this may not have been the best purchase. I was planning on doing the pay by month plan because I don't have satellite at home to piggy back off of. Has anyone had any luck hooking a Wally up to an older (1999) satellite dish? I've spent thousands of dollars this year on repairs and upgrades, buying a new dish seemed silly if the old one will work. (Maybe a new dish will be in the budget next year)

I just finished up doing some of the same things so here are some tips/ideas for you:
1. I would suspect the booster is used for external antennae for local TV channels. Normally it comes from the antennae direct to the cable connection on a modern TV.
2. I went with Dish as well but I went with the Dish Vip211z receiver based upon some of the research I did. HDMI out to the TV.
3. Finally, I picked up the X2 dish used ($200) and it has been great. Auto positioning and supports multiple satellite zones.
4. I put in a TV that has built in Roku that gives me a lot of flexibility.
Enjoy!
