estimating weights

I just got back for a almost 4 week (3500 mile) trip out west to New Mexico, Moab UT and western Colorado. on my way back from Moab coming into Colorado I passed a weigh station on a 2 lane (CO highway 90 I think) and it had a larger lighted sign that said Truck Weight 00lbs. I noticed It was closed and no one was there as i drove by. I also noticed it had a smaller scale for a axle or pair of axles and no gates or a fence of any kind. SO I though Free weight here i go I made a U Turn and headed to find out my units true weight.
I never really worry about my weight (you can why in a moment) but it usually does creep up from most people estimates.
Before this mine was weight just with the empty box installed and it was 13200.
No trailer or course.
Since my last trip I have added a full bathroom where it had none.
I was in the seat and had 1/2 tank of fuel. (there are no black or grew tanks)
So I slowly pull onto the scales and SEE
6000 lbs for the steer axle, 11300 lbs for the drive axle, and 5220 lbs for the 2 trailer axles.
So I'm at 22,500 lbs with a GVWR of 30,000 and a 7500 lb rated trailer.

I had estimated I was about 95% of that. so it is a little higher but not quite as bad as I thought.

I found a freebie something like you did. Sometime ago i saw a truck / storage facility with a large scale, and they were not operating. So I stopped by the office and ask if I could weigh my MH, and told them I did not need a print out of the weights. They said sure, so I proceeded to get all the weights I needed, for no charge, and at my leisure. Sometimes we get lucky.
