Explain your username (Part II)

(Thought I'd resurrect one of the popular threads in this section, since I couldn't do a shameless bump of the original (thread is too old to reply) and also for the new members who have just recently joined).

Here's my explanation (again):

In my "former life", I was a U.S. Army UH-1H flight engineer or "crew chief". I served with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) out of Ft. Campbell, KY supporting Task Force 3/327th in the Sinai. We were the U.S. contingent serving alongside many nations in the MFO - Multinational Force and Observer, a.k.a. "Sinai Peacekeepers". Our aviation unit provided support and reconnaissance to the infantry units sent there.

"Peacekeeper6" was the call sign of our commanding officer who flew my Huey many times. (My bird was a '72 H-model, and had served many missions in Vietnam). My CO was an NCO who became a major, and was one of those commanders who got respect without really asking for it; his chest full of awards and medals, coupled with being an aviator and a former member of the Special Forces in Vietnam, got noticed. His leadership style was the right blend of authority and compassion. All of his subordinates enjoyed serving under his command.

And being 40-something and in GREAT shape (at the time), he could outrun A LOT of 18-year old "punks".

Anyway, I've always admired him and never forgot his cool call sign.

HD for Harley Davidson. Bought mine new in 1987. DW bought hers (2nd one) in 96. We don't ride as much as we used to but I just can't bring myself to sell it.

Mine was from when I was in the Marines. I would walk into a party or event, look around and say What no beer? So when the internet opened up to the general public in the early 90's that seemed to stick. So there you have it.

We are both retired from the high stress, fast paced world of technology and medicine. One of our goals in retirement was to slow down and pay more attention to the world around us, to observe and understand more about nature.
The word selah is a Hebrew word found in the Old Testament generally meaning to pause and reflect.
So, as we travel the country in the MH, that is what we want to do; pause and reflect on the beauty and mystery of the things we see and experience.

Thom and I used to get paid to be pirates all up and down the coast of Florida from Key West to the panhandle. Silly is/was the characters name so Pyrate Silly has stuck and Thom is Pyrate Patches. When you get called a name from about 8am to 1am for days it sticks and you will answer any where and any when you get called it. As a matter of fact on the CB I am known as Silly too.
