Hi and welcome to the forum.

This is one of the most debated topics on the forum. As mentioned these are not warranties but insurance policies.

IMHO, they should be looked at like other insurance policies and NOT as investments which you expect to come out ahead on. We don't look at any other type of insurance as an investment and I don't understand why these should be any different.

We bought a seven year policy from EasyCare when we purchased our new 40DP in 2007. I was a newbie and did it for peace of mind... which it provided. As it turns out, my total claims at the end of that period just about equaled what I paid for it... by YMMV.

With the experience I now have, I don't think I would do it again and I chose not to renew it when it expired.

IMHO when you buy an extended service package, you are betting that you will have big problems and the insurance company is betting that you will not. You can bet that the insurance company has done the research and knows exactly what they are doing. They are not planning to lose money, even after they have paid all of the commissions and administration costs. Like others have stated, if you put the money into the bank along with the deductible that you would have to pay anyway, chances are pretty good that you would come out ahead.

well we are very happy we purchased one on our new ACE 2013 29.2 We had the usual issues with the masterator and the couch just falling apart...all were handled under the first year warranty which ended in march...in August our slide wouldn't come in or go out...and it ended up twisted. The coach looked like a fun house inside..the top of the slide was stuck out and the bottom was tilted in...it took eight guys to wiggle and jiggle it to get it back into a position so we could drive it to a repair shop. We were enjoy summer in Cody Wyoming. We took it to Park RV and the owner bent over backwards to accommodate us...we were given full hookup in his shop until the parts came in to repair the gears. Thor gave us a break on the cost of the materials and the extended warranty cover all but $800 of the $4000 bill!

When you buy one you are betting you're going to have problems and the insurance co is betting you don't.
If the dealer is trying to sell it you might reconsider your purchase. He's saying you're buying something that he thinks will break down. Then you have to ask yourself: Do I really want it if the dealer thinks it'll break down?
Also, unless purchased from the manufacture it's not a "warranty" it's a service policy and there's a big difference in your coverage and remedies under the laws.

I would NEVER buy a plan from a dealer. Why add to HIS profit margin. Anyone can find an ESP, and remember if it's from a broker the price can be negotiated. Some of those plans have a pretty hefty margin in them. And to answer the question of whether or not to get one on a new coach, I say wait til the manufacturer's coverage ends.
