You seem to be suggesting that the QP system doesn't charge a "replenish" amount. Is that true? Once you're paid your $8, each toll event is charged to your credit card individually?

I live in Virginia. Our EZ-Pass geniuses have worked up a plan where we have to send them $75 per transponder that they hold until it gets low, then they charge another $75. Money in the bank -- for them, not for me.

If NC is not doing the replenish thing, I might consider getting a few QP transponders.

Please don't read anything in which isn't there. I made no such claim or suggestion. NC does hold money for the Quick Pass. Just like every other state. How else would they do it? But not by how many transponders you have just one account that must maintain a positive balance through a credit card. I think it is $50 but I really don't care, all three transponders are attached to that one account. Now I haven't had the time to go back and see how much interest at the present 2% that most folks are getting it may have cost me compared to the difference between not having one and let them bill me by my licence plate but I'm sure someone is going to do that. My guess is that the $50 being held for 12 months at 10% would be less than paying a fee of $1.45 by transponder and $1.75 by licence plate even if you only use it once in a while. But at times I use it a lot and I'm gonna guess it is way cheaper. Besides with the coach it is way more convenient than hitting one of those mirrors in a toll booth which is a $1,000 experience I do not need again.

I have a transponder from Pennsylvania that I have used in the motorhome (without the toad) and it worked just fine, however the next time I will be pulling the toad. I also have a New York transponder which only works with regular vehicles.

Anyone from Pennsylvania that uses their transponder have any input here? Would like to know if you had to purchase a special transponder for the rv pulling the toad.

Ours is from PA. We put the transponder in the bottom of the windshield near the center. We make sure that our second transponder (for the toad when not in tow) is shielded. After that it does it's job on it's own counting axles and charging accordingly. Only once did we ever have a problem. That was when pulling a popup with a car. Instead of charging for the extra axle on the trailer it charged us for the car only and then it sent us a violation stating that the trailer came through by itself and we owed a $1.30 toll and $12 in penalties. We had fun calling them and pointing this out. They fixed it immediately. I suggest that nobody should ever buy the EZ Pass in Jersey or NY. They are mean. Get it in PA.

I have no problem with NJ EZPass. Had it since 07 and never a problem. Have 3 of them, the one for the RV is used for my Coup, Falcon and 2 different types of trailers. No problems and recharge is for the account not each transponder. So unless you had an NJ account with a problem, don't make blanket statements!

FL has E Pass now - it works in 18 states (wherever EZPass is accepted). You pay to buy the portable device and you choose the amount you want to charge it with initially, the low trigger amount that it will refill and the refill amount. You also enter the vehicles it will cover. Charged to a CC you enter.

No Annual fee and no monthly fees.
I haven't used it yet but will, starting next week.

Must be lucky

Toured thru New York and Pennsylvania last summer with my Kansas pass. Never paid a toll. Six months later got one bill from New York for $2.50, based on the Toad's license tag. Must be living right.
