I looked at the page for the NC EZ Pass and had trouble trying to sign up because I don't live in NC. I sent an email to them about it. I drive thru the East Coast are from time to time and have been thinking about getting a toll pass to save money and make life easier. Are there other people who have and EZ Pass and don't live in that state? If so is one stater better to register with?

I live in Wisconsin but got my EZ Pass through Illinois. They call it the I-Pass but it's the same and works everywhere EZ Pass does. No requirement to live in IL, and no fee for the transponder.

Actually, Federal rules were passed years ago to require all the different toll systems to use a universal tag system. There is something like that out there (National Pass), but it's not cheap and not really that functional from what I've read. The deadline for the truly universal tag seems to keep getting pushed back. Shouldn't be that difficult for the different systems to get on the same page.

That day may come. Think Buck Rogers. 'Who would have thunk it,' putting a man on the moon.

NC Quick Padd
NC does not sell EZ Pass, we have our own version here called Quick Pass. However Quick Pass works on all EZ Pass states, Florida’s Sunshine Pass, GA’s Peach Pass. I’m not sure if they sell it to non residents, if not and you live in another state, I would just buy an EZ Pass from the state that sells it the cheapest or has less restrictions.

It's my understanding that North Carolina actually has two different types of passes. One is a "stick on" pass that is only valid in NC, GA and FL. The other, more expensive type, is also valid in the EZPass states and it appears to be a standard EZPass transponder.
I happen to be in NC at the moment and my son had just pointed out to me that he had changed from the sticker to the transponder.

Someone needs to tell NC that they don't need the words E-ZPass on their inexpensive transponder.

That was the case when I purchased mine and they sent me both types. When queried about motorhomes and towing they said to not use the stick on one, just transfer the transponder between vehicles. Just make sure both vehicles are registered to the transponder. Worked for me in all the states we traveled through or were sight seeing in the TOAD.

Gents, Gents, please. The NC system is called "NC Quick Pass", that is the official name right off of the web site. It is run by the North Carolina Turnpike Authority. (877) 769-7277 Here is the web site.
https://www.myncquickpass.com/en/home/index.shtml
Go there sign up pay $7.95 for the Toll tag that works all over the Eastern US and get on with it. They don't ask where you live they don't care. When you sign up they ask for a credit card and of course the billing address of that card, your vehicle type make and model, axle count and the Licence plate number and State. All on line.
This isn't hard. If you live in a state and you think you have to be loyal to your state do so. But when your tag doesn't work in FL or GA or other states remember NC Quick Pass does.
I do not live in NC, I did but do not now. They have some of the highest gas price taxes as anywhere in the US. They have a personal property tax that is attached to your licence plate for your cars, boat and motor home. On a 2018 Newmar Dutch Star with a sticker of $450 k that licence plate costs a little north of $4 k each year. Split up between the State, County and City in which it is registered. Gotta admit the sales tax on a RV is a max of $2 k no matter what it costs. They tax your cars the same way, a MB E 350 is about $600 a year. My boat got the same Personal Property Tax on it from not only the state but the county and city in which it was moored on Jan 1st. That was $2500 a year. The point being here is that I can't stand them but the Quick Pass system works better than any other. Plain and simple.

I am a Florida resident and I have an NC Quickpass that also works as an EZ pass. I have used it in a number of states so I know it works. I understand that it is different from the Quickpass that is just for NC, GA & FL. FL did not have a EZ pass at the time I bought it, althougth they say it is coming.
