Fantastic Fan: All the way open or closed but not in between?

My two Fantastic Fans seem to open the ceiling fan cover all the way open or all the way closed but not in between. So if I want to just partially open the vent I'm unable to. Is this normal or am I operating the fans incorrectly? I've tried using both the "manual" and "Auto" settings and varying the thermostat settings but to no avail.

On ours we can pull the knob that opens the vent down. It disconnects from the motor and we can open it to whatever gap we want. You have to open it far enough to operate the switch for the fan otherwise it will not come on.

Downside is that disables the thermostat and rain sensing feature for closing the vent cover. It fan operation is not changed.

Do you see a black button? It should have a little red sticker by it that says "stop dome". On the way up, when it gets to where you want it, push the button.

There are several different Fantastic models, with slightly different controls, so yours may differ from mine. I can stop the dome motor at any point by turning the fan power switch (mounted on the face of the fan) to off, or I can manually open/close as much as I like using the black knob - pull it down and turn.

The dome will also stop moving if you simply hold it in place, but you would have to be up on the roof to do that!

Man oh man, do I feel dumb. That black button with the little red sticker was sitting right there in front of me on the face of the fan unit.
