You hate to hear about these type of accidents especially when there is a loss of life.

Off the main rd and into a waterway ditch. With the trailer sitting next to it like that and intact, it does look as though it exploded on impact. This has familiar hallmarks! I won't be surprised if it turns out to be another steer blowout.
Such a tragedy. And, the loss if a 6 year old child.

Went by the scene several hours after it occurred in our car and just got back to western Washington after fighting the traffic over the pass. Our sincere condolences to the family and our thoughts are with them.

We heard that traffic was bad in the area even at that time of the afternoon and where it happened is a place just before three lanes merge into two from the entrance ramp from Canyon Road at the south end of Ellensburg going westbound on I-90. I don't know if the merge had anything to do to contribute to the accident. Or if it had anything to do with equipment failure (blowout, etc.). They were also towing what appeared to possibly be an enclosed car trailer. It looked to us that no other vehicles were involved and the DP and trailer just went through two sets of guard rails on the left side of the roadway and into the creek.

Here is what the roadway appears like approaching that overpass over the creek on Google SV: go HERE (US97 and I-90 are one and the same at that point) and the crash site on Google SV that corresponds to the WSP accident scene photos ...go HERE. And the 3 WSP accident scene photos from KOMO TV in Seattle ...go HERE

I'll be curious if WSP will release details of how the accident happened and the cause. So tragic, indeed.

This validates our decision to ditch the Class A and go with a Super C.

I'm so sad that this happens to anyone..

Be safe out there!

I really hate to read these stories, it seems as if this is happening more and more lately.
Perhaps it's poor tire maintenance, lack of driver training, or maybe they hit something that took out the tire. Chances are we'll never know.
I'm not sure a Class C handles any better than a Class A in a blown tire situation. On our Class C, I installed a SteerSafe device which is supposed to help kept the motorhome under control in the event of a steer tire blowout. Hopefully, I'll never have to find out if it works. I have researched the issue and want to believe I will handle the situation calmly and accelerate in the event of a blowout as recommended in order to gain control, but who knows how one will really respond in a crisis situation?
Proper maintenance is key, of course, and a TPMS may be useful in alerting to an early sign of failure, but hitting something on the road negates all that. You just have to be as prepared as possible for the event.
My condolences to the family and all those involved in this tragedy.

Not a good week, and I have to go on to say, year so far. I've seen more postings this year than ever before.

Our local news just reported yesterday, an accident that killed four people about 30 miles from our home. Appears a pick up truck crossed the divider and ran head on into another truck towing a trailer.

Hwy 69 Accident

Very sad news,, Prayers for those Families involved.
