Fifth Wheel totaled in storm, still battling with Insurance

We have a 2009 Sandpiper 316BHT that was totaled in a storm almost a month ago. It's been a battle with insurance this entire month, and they still can't give us a good number. The comps they are using are a year older, or completely different models(34' with 2 slides, one bathroom, ours is 37', 3 slides, 2 bathrooms). I know it's difficult to find comps sometimes, but is it really this difficult? I am open to any advice about what we can do. Thanks!!!

Would you let us know what insurance you are dealing with?

Thanks.

Have they made any offers, or have you told them what amount you expect to get?

If you believe that the insurance company us really dragging their feet, get in contact with your states insurance commissioner.

Best of luck

yes, they gave us a total which is about $5,000 below NADA value, and they tell us they can't use NADA. They re-evaluated and came up with another $2000. We are getting there, but they supposedly have looked at new comparisons but the numbers don't change, and it just isn't making any sense. They simply aren't comparing apples to apples and I'm about at my whits end.

"gymmom".......no matter how many games an insurance company wants to play, they are required by law to pay out the appropriate money in a reasonable time frame. Sometimes you have to call their bluff.

That's what I'm trying to do, but it doesn't seem like I am getting anywhere. They say they will re-run the numbers, but yet they send me the exact same thing. My agent is involved as well, but we are coming up on a month. Meanwhile, we are growing mushrooms in the wet carpet with this heat!

Did they give you a reason why they cannot use NADA? Sounds pretty fishy to me.

They can use NADA, they just don't want to. They also have to pay you state sales tax and licensing for the state it is licensed in.
NADA is the book that most banks and insurance companies use, they are just trying to take advantage of you and will probable "forget" about the sales tax and license fees for a replacement if you don't know about it.

They actually ARE including the tax and other fees, but I'm glad to hear that they can use NADA....I thought that was strange!

The state insurance commissioner sounds like a good bet to start with.

I think you have one of two possible problems. You have an incompetent adjuster who is an employee of Travlers, in which case ask to have your claim referred to a supervisor. Or, the adjuster is not an employee of Travlers, they may be an independent adjuster subcontracted to provide claim resolution. The latter usually works for an adjusting firm, ask who that is and ask to talk to their supervisor. My guess is you have a newbie that knows nothing about RV's and is probably an auto adjuster.
