Fire pit - safe distance from RV?

We're stopping for a wee while in a campground that has fire pits. They've asked us to not move the fire pit, but it seems to me to be very close to the RV.

What's a safe distance from the RV, in your experience?

Thank you

Yeah, wouldn't have considered making a roaring blaze

And 5' seems a bit close, but we can do a bit further.

Thank you

I like to keep it at least 10 to 15 ft away. It keeps the smoke away from the coach.

Totally agree. I have a lot of respect for fire close to the MH. Also, (my rant) I am tired of seeing them still smoldering unattended till the following morning.

Simple, don't use it if you consider it too close to your RV. That's why we always carry our own portable fire pit w/ screen cover, and a box of store-bought fire logs. They last 2 hrs, by that time we're ready to go to bed anyway.

We carry a portable too. I cut firewood about 12" in length and the size of my wrist so it lights easily and burns pretty quickly. 10' from the RV is adequate for us.

Usually 10 feet or more. If i think it is too close then it IS too close.

We stayed at a park on the Southern CA coast. Our neighbor's fire ring was within 3 ft of our coach. I felt very bad about it, but asked the neighbor not to use it. Disappointed a pair of young campers, but too close is just too close. It was about 10 ft from the neighbor's coach. We do not plan to stay at that park again.

We also stayed at a park in the East. It was the practice of campers in that park to build huge fires that threw sparks high in the air. It was wet enough to not be a problem there, but in the West, such fires would likely trigger a forest fire. So even the 5 miles that was suggested can be too close in some places.

Don't use it if too close in YOUR opinion.

We are at a state park CG in OK and the fire pits are close to our camper, like 6'. So we have not had a fire in our 2 week stay here. Last weekend the site next to us had a camp fire that was too close to my truck. So I moved the truck a nearby parking lot. No sense in taking chances.

Would the park name be Pismo Coast RV Resort??
