Just inquire where there are lighthouses. We did it on the Oregon coast through the state parks and also on an island in Lake Michigan, part of Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore. We parked the motorhome in the park's campground on the mainland, packed up food to last 10 days, took the day ferry to the island and they gave us a historic house to live in while there. No stores on the island. When the day visitors left and the backcountry campers were settled in we felt we had the island to ourselves although there were a couple rangers there also. We'd come off every 10 days for 3 days and repeat. It was awesome! Some lighthouses are also under the Lighthouse Society so you'd have to contact them. We loved doing it. However, we both now have knee replacements. Coincidence? Some are very tall and giving tours up and down constantly makes you sleep good at night!

Many thanks for all the encouragement.

For those looking for their first hosting, it's easy to find a place if you are not particular, but I was incredibly lucky because I was very specific in location.

We're going to be in Missouri because my daughter will be having twins and my wife wants to be there to help out. We needed to be near the western suburbs.

I got in touch with Missouri Parks Department and then filled out their application form. I specified only two parks - Babler (1st choice) and Robertsville (2nd). Out of the blue came a call from Robertsville.

I'll post once the gig is over and report the experience.

I'll also recommend that if you're in a park you like and perhaps want to volunteer the following season or even this season, just ask about positions. We got Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park and Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore by just that. Being there in person is a big plus. They can talk to you and you to them and you can see if your RV will fit in o.k.
