Just inquire where there are lighthouses. We did it on the Oregon coast through the state parks and also on an island in Lake Michigan, part of Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore. We parked the motorhome in the park's campground on the mainland, packed up food to last 10 days, took the day ferry to the island and they gave us a historic house to live in while there. No stores on the island. When the day visitors left and the backcountry campers were settled in we felt we had the island to ourselves although there were a couple rangers there also. We'd come off every 10 days for 3 days and repeat. It was awesome! Some lighthouses are also under the Lighthouse Society so you'd have to contact them. We loved doing it. However, we both now have knee replacements. Coincidence?
Some are very tall and giving tours up and down constantly makes you sleep good at night!
