First RV show since 1985...

Sold the sailboat and after 30 years, we are retiring in December and getting back into RVing. Thought a good place to start was the RV show near St. Augustine this past Friday and boy, have RV's changed! The variety of floor plans is amazing (sometimes odd) and you guys were right, settle on a floor plan first. DW saw so many things that I didn't notice. The sales people were fun to talk to and generally pretty helpful.

Thanks to this forum, I was aware of potential quality issues and sure found a few of them. You have to wonder how some of this stuff gets out of the factory. We spent most of our time looking at motorhomes, but noticed the new trailers had far less outside storage space than any of the 19',22' & 26' trailers we had in the '80s. It was hard not to laugh at the sales reps when they proudly pointed out that a queen bed with 4" on each side was a walk-around.

It was a small show, with only 200 units, but we learned a lot and have a better idea of what the DW likes and doesn't like. That's what counts in the end, right?

Sounds like you are on the right track.
They say buy your 3rd RV first, but the challenge is you really dont know what you will like and what you would like better until you have spend a few weeks traveling and living in the dang thing.

So I say buy your 1st RV 1st, then your 3rd one 2nd!

Hi, former boaters also. Our first trailer was a 13 ft. Now we are at 18, which gives us a fixed dinette and queen bed ( sideways), with a bunk over that we use for extra storage. I'd like to go bigger, but then our style of camping is provincial parks. The smaller trailer gives us access to more sites. I'm sure in a few years we'll want more comfort, but for now it's a good fit. I really do enjoy the fact that I can go to sleep and not worry about a storm blowing in and dragging anchor.
