First trip with rv
Hello all i am going on my first trip with the new to me rv. It is a 28ft keystone outback. I am thinking about generators and was wondering if a 2000 watt inverter would be enough for this rv ? Also any ideas on how i switch to battery power when the generator is off ? I didnt get any paperwork with it.
Thank you for any response

Should not have to do anything to go to battery power. This is the "main" power source and for most newer rvs when you plug in the transfer switch will power the converter to charge the 12v batteries and power the 120v appliances. Basically the same thing happens when you start the generator as long as it was a factory unit. If it is separate from the trailer then you may have to plug the shore power cord into it.
I'm sure others will add some more detail if you give us some more info on your generator, batteries, and what you are wanting to power with the 12v batteries.
You may find some manuals on-line for the trailer and various appliances and things like the water pump, etc. Would be good to make a list of all of these items so if you have an issue you can look up info online quickly.

If you install an inverter make sure you buy a true since wave inverter. Electronics don't like the modified or square wave units.

I doubt that you'll be happy with an inverter generator that small. It may or may not run your A/C and not much else. I assume that you have a 13,500 A/C unit. I would strongly suggest that you get something north of 3,500 watts. Even with that, you'll have to turn off the A/C in order to use the microwave.
Best of luck and happy camping!

Buy two. You can get by on one when the weather is cool and you don't need ac. When its hot you can parallel them for 4000 watts and run the ac. Two smaller units are easier and quieter than one larger one.

This is what I did when I had my 5th Wheel TH. I have 2 Honda 2000 watt generators and used 1 when just charging battery or running the trailer without AC. Had the parallel cable kit and used the 2 in parallel when I needed AC. Worked great and if it was cool I only needed to carry 1 small generator. Also good for quiet tailgating, etc.
