At the 50th anniversary of FMCA in Gillette, there were a bunch of Flex buses. Some were rode hard and put away wet but some had been full restored and they were very neat. Might be fun to have one.

It's great that someone out there restores these things. Beautiful to look at, but honestly I would hate to maintain it.

They're beautiful buses.

At the risk of being "that guy", it's actually spelled without the "e" (I assume so they could copyright it as a trade name).

I drove one of those back in the 60s that our dance band owned. A great way to travel. I think it finally died near Tifton GA in '63. Buick straight 8 engine.

Flxible - they dropped the "e"

Flxible Bus

It all started with a flexible sidecar connection that allowed a motorcycle to lean when rounding curves. However, "flexible" could not be copyrighted.

The history of the Flxible bus manufacturing company goes back to the founding in 1913 of the Flexible Side Car Co.. The company soon became the world's largest manufacturer of motorcycle sidecars, after its founder, Hugo H. Young, had patented his invention of a "flexible" sidecar connection joint — which allowed the wheels of the sidecar to lean when the sidecar and motorcycle rounded curves. Hugo Young's flexible mounting invention resulted in a high demand for his sidecars — a number of which were built for the Allied Armies during WW-I. In 1919, the company's name was changed to The Flxible Company. The company's trademark name "Flxible" had been derived from Young's invention, but the "e" was dropped from the common spelling of "flexible" to allow the misspelled name to be copyrighted.
