Barbara S. Flying J in Jarrell is not a Pilot/Flying J franchise dealer it is a private dealer, at most private dealers the only place any of Pilot's/Flying J discount cards will work is at the Diesel Truck Pumps.

Here is a link to Pilot/Flying J RV Travel Guide, it tells what services are available and which areas discount cards are available.

Barbara,

I gave up on the Flying J card. I obtained a Visa card from PenFed that gives me 5% off for all gasoline purchases that are pay at the pump purchases. The savings on purchases with the 5% off are greater than what Flying J offers with their card. It is good as long as you pay at the pump. The 5% discount is taken off the top of your monthly invoice. Works for me.

X2 on the PenFed Cash Rewards card! That has saved me a LOT of money over the past 2 years. At $4/gallon that's .20/gallon discount!

Part of the reason I downsized from a DP to a C was for the reason I can now fill almost anywhere. FJ and their ilk were becoming a pita.

I agree.
Also with the PenFed Cash Card.

The second place was a Flying J in Jarrell, TX. They said the discount is only good at the diesel pumps in the back, not the gas pumps in the front. Hey, my motorhome is gas and so no discount. The third time was the Flying J in Houston on I-45. They didn't even know what the card was and couldn't help me! I paid 10 cents more there than to go up the freeway to another station. I couldn't even use my credit card at the pumps because their system was having a problem. I was having a problem too since I am disabled and had to walk to the store 3 times before I could finally put gas in my vehicle. I used to like Flying J but I am beginning to look elsewhere!
Barb while there are some on this board that seem to love FJ and NEVER have any problems with them and will yet admit that there are 'bugs',... there are others of us that are constantly plagued and figger it's just not worth the hassle. That's where I and several others are.

For ME, the PenFed card is the BEST! A far greater discount available almost anywhere, and without the hassle of dealing with Pilot/FJ.

I use Flying J for the sole purpose of being able to get fuel and being able to get myself out of the station without taking out the pumps, toad, and whatever else. It is so difficult to get gas at a station that is not suited for large vehicles.
Most of the Flying J's we have used, you swipe the CC first and than it ask for your loyalty card, and than proceed to refuel......

I stopped at Flying J two or three times on my Colorado trip last June and mine never worked right either, I did everything exactly as I was supposed to and it never did work right. Too complicated, I'm just gonna stop at Loves or whoever has the best pricing....

As they said, the Flying J's are not always the cheapest to start with. I do like the RV Islands though. :(

We just finished a 3.5 week trip down the coast and didn't use the fJ card once. When I needed fuel there wasnt one around and when I did see one the price was more than the gas stations nearby. Actually I found FJ to be the most expensive followed by chevron and shell..76 was always a few cents cheaper. I got caught a few time going to gas stations that advertised the commercial rate for diesel, PUC I think they called it. I thought that was misleading 90 percent of the drivers. I still can't get my head around the price of diesel....30 cents more than regular gas? the least refined of all fuels.......Ok I got off topic a bit there...What I am gonna do is cancel the FJ card, I just did not and likely will not use it.

Barbara,
The "PenFed" credit card is a
Cash Rewards card! You get 5% off you fuel purchases when you use it to 'pay-at-the-pump'. It's a credit on your statement every month. So if you buy fuel at $4,00/gal,... your getting $.20/gal off!
Google "PenFed Cash Rewards Credit Card".
One caution, there are TWO cards. Be sure to get the "Cash Rewards" card. BTW, no monthly fee either.
