Can't say I have had any worse experiences at Flying J over the years than at "normal" fuel stations. As stated above, I usually have a towd or a trailer and use the truck lanes. I have never had a trucker be rude....in fact they frequently enjoy a word or two about where we have been and where are we headed.

And if that trucker has a nice looking rig, tell 'em so. Many are independents and darn proud of their rigs just as we are.

I've driven big trucks in the oil fields as a youngster...it is a tough job. A courtesy their way at the pump or on the road will someday be paid forward...you can bet on it

Why not get a Visa Cash Reward card from PenFed (5% off fuel at the pump) and use gasbuddy (a free app for smart phones and iPads) to locate where the best gas price is while you are on the road. That way you don't have to visit the dirty FJs! Just a thought!

I could not agree more! We have the GS P FJ card and we never go in. 8cents a gallon for fresh fuel. We did a 6,900 mile round this past summer and used FJ at every fuel stop with no probs. Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

At the RV pumps, the on-screen instructions direct the user to first insert the CC they use, then the FJ loyalty card to start the pump and receive the cash price + discount. I don't even attempt to use the OTR truck pumps if I have a choice, those folks are working for a living; I'm merely relaxing and enjoying the drive.

FWIW, none of the major credit card companies limit the amount of purchase. I have one of each, Discover, MC, Visa; I have emailed each with the same question, "Do you impose a ceiling on amount of purchase?" All three replied by email with this answer " No, we do not limit the amount of purchase-up to your credit limit. It would be counter-productive for us to limit the amount charged". One of them went further to state it was usually the credit card processing center the retailer used that set the dollar limit on purchases, because they are paid for each transaction they process instead of dollars charged.

pumps

Might sound like a dumb question but I have a Gas 36 ft pulling a 16 ft Harley trailer...does the Truck pump area only sell Diesel or do they offer gas as well?

The one Semi I ever drove was a Gasser (Ford, 8000 gas conventional) but I've not seen gas pumps at very many truck stops in the truck lanes.. Only in the auto lanes.

TEKON in Tekonsha, MI is the exception,, but then the Davis Brothers (No relation) who owned the TEKON, also owned the Semi.

Well, I don't know about the ugly part!

But at our local Petro, I just pull in where the cars go. Haven't had any problems, though it's a little tight getting out if I don't use the outboard bank of pumps....

Not at all. At every Flying J I have ever been to, also Pilot, TA and many other stations, Even Murphy USA and Marathon/Shell/Speedway.. So long as i take the OUTSIDE pump (If there are 10 pumps that's #1 or #10) I can gas up at the auto isle.

Some flying-J's I find the RV lanes a bit.. er... tight.

But I can always gas up at the car islands.

Absolutely agree. RV slots are often little more the an automobile island on the end. This can be checked on Google Maps when planning your route before you ever get there ... also, the MyPilot Mobile app has a Bird's Eye View feature.

Almost 800 posts and 48,000 viewers on information about buying fuel at Flying J ! You have to be one screwed up company to generate all these negative (a few positive ) comments.

Used Flying J on our first trip to Texas, but after comparing price (on diesel) even with discount, we haven't returned.
