Flying J Stops

When we travel we always look for the RV full service centers. It amazes me how many people do not know what and RV island is. Just out side Tallahassee we stopped to fill up at the RV island. There was a pick-up truck in one lane and a panel truck in the other lane. No one in either vehicle. They finally can back with bags of goodies. There were three motorhomes waiting to get serviced. Maybe Fly J should monitor the RV islands. If you are not an RV the pumps should not operate...... Oh this is not the first Flying J that has had this problem.........

We have been avoiding Flying J lately as they are overpriced on the fuel. Also you have to deal with the mentally challenged to get to an "RV" island.

Al it takes is for you to pick up the service phone and have them make an announcement for the "person owning........ parked in the rv island please move it, there are customers waiting". That works for me.

I have a Flying J/ Pilot fuel card so I go to the truck side. But, I have the same complaints about the RV island and the cost. Even though I get .06 off, the fuel is still high and the truck islands are usually dirty. I have written to Flying J on a few occasions but they give me the service platitudes and life goes on. I will still use them for the convenience and I suppose that has a cost.
People who drive cars have no regard for RV drivers on the road or in the service stations. It is like the wild west on the road.

I avoid Flying J and Pilot stations at all cost...Even with their discount (if you can get it) they are still the highest price around. Since Flying J's management won't listen I'll take my $$$ and go to a station down the road.

We travel in a 2009 Dodge diesel & a 5th wheel, we aviod going to flying J since we saw a decal on the pump indicating that the fuel "may contain" between 5% to 30% bio diesel. Both Dodge & Cummins recommends no more than a 5% blend.

We too have truck and 5er. Noticed this same sign at a Flying J on our way home from Florida. Just pulled out and down the road to big Shell station that was very easy in and out.

Pulling out and going down the road is just fine for you guys with TT or 5ers. Its not so easy for us with a Class A or Super C pulling a toad. Its a whole lot easier for you guys to maneuver through the smaller gas stations. Hell you can even back up if you had too. Backing up is not an option for Class A with a toad. I'm willing to pay a few cents more to ensure clean waterless fuel. My Cummins burns their fuel just fine, never had any problems. For the most part where there is a Pilot or Flying J there are usually other truckstops around and the difference in price is usually a penny or two. I've been across country 5 times now and its been like that pretty much everywhere. Getting off the highway and traveling into town to find a place for fuel that I may or may not be able to get into or get out of and may save me $.10 a gallon which usually adds up to about $9.00 in savings. Its not worth the headache.

Boy is that true in so many things! Kind of makes one shiver knowing they actually drive on our highways.

Interesting, this year on our trip to the RGV and back, we used the Pilot/Flying J stops and found their prices to be lower than most other truck stops. Ran into the situation a couple of times with 4 wheelers gassing up at the RV Islands and a couple of their truck stops without RV islands.

I use Pilot and Flying J mainly because the RV Plus card gives me $.06 per gallon off the cash price. Plus I like the buy now pay later option. If the other truckstops offered such a program I would get fuel from them too.

We are newbie RV owners with our first DP. What are the best places to stop for fuel if Flying J / Pilot not good? Never paid attention to truck stops in past since never owned an RV before.

With the .06 discount off the cash price the Pilot/FJ price is at or lower than other truck stops like Loves or TA. Most truckers are curtiuous enough to pull forward after fueling so your not sitting there waiting for someone to buy a bag of chips or something before you can even get to the pump. The truck lanes are always easy in and easy out and I like the large nozzle. I can put $300.00+ in the tank without going in or making multiple swipes of a credit card.
I like things simple and I like the idea that I can fuel my MH as easy as a fuel my car so I always use the truck lanes and try to use Pilot/FJ pay at the pump when ever possible. If that costs me an extra $2 or $3 at a fill up, that's ok.
I have not noticed anything above 5% biodiesel sticker on there pumps. I'll have to pay more attention next time.

I pulled into the Flying J on I95 Exit 29 in GA today. Drove right into the RV Island, no waiting.

Price on pump for Diesel was $3.889. Swiped my Visa 3% off card then Swiped my GS 3¢ discount card. Total cost came out at $3.743 a gal. My receipt was gotten right at pump.

Parked in a RV narrow slot. Went inside and had a $2.12 breakfast at Denny's.
Works for me. Next fill up will be at another Flying J in SC. with a Denny's.

Most Flying J's now have from 5% to 15% BIO. That information for any stations amount is on their web site.
The one I filled up today has a Intended Bio Blend: B15

Tomorrow morning I have a 25 mile drive from this campground to a Flying J with a Denny's. No fuel needed there, but will get another breakfast.
