I'm also new to RVing, but I agree with most of the other senior members. Nothing is really for free. Last summer we traveled from upstate NY to Princeton, WV and then on to Disney World and we found Flying J facilities to be great. they were clean, had good access for your RV, you could dump your tank if necessary, there was good food, you could fill your LP, and if you desired, park the night for free. The fuel prices were competitive for the locations and with all the other available services I think I will stay loyal to Flying J.

I'm still waiting on you to give the zip on MSN where the nearby stations to FJ are 20¢ lower a gal. That you found on your trip.

You would be helping the other users on this forum to know where you found those cheaper fuel stops.

Telling them to check it out their self when you already know.
Does not help much.

Unfortunately, posting various major oil company locations around the US where fuel was cheaper yesterday, may not mean diddly squat today and tomorrow - a week ago, local diesel fuel was $3.49 a gallon - today it's $3.60, and while various online sites post some of the more major fuel outlet prices, they don't cover ALL small and independent fuel outlets, many of which which quite often are lower than many of the major outfits.

And as an excellent "for instance", the site using that pointer up above is still reporting my own local fuel price that has NOT been accurate for over a week now - it's 11 cents a gallon LOWER than actual...

I agree with you about not being absolutly accurate, however, I have found that the cheaper station today will probably be the cheaper station tomorrow. Hey, you gotta work with the tools you have. When I put a trip together I know how far I can go on a tankfull and I check fuel prices there. If I pass a place enroute that is cheaper, that where I'll stop. Sure beats driving all over town checking prices. When you are paying $350 for 100 gallons of fuel does $20 make that much of a differance, not really, but I like to save a buck if I can.

We have used FJ for 10+ years and appreciate 2 / 3 cents per gallon their Loyalty Card offers. Now that they have fixed up their restaurants it makes it even nicer. Having to be a member of AARP to enjoy the senior discount grinds a little but so be it.
Have no problem with them charging for the dump station, never stayed at free-be spots long enough between campgrounds to need them anyway. As to free-bes, I would have no problem with them charging a small fee for the quick overnights that we use when in need a few hours sleep while on the fly between campgrounds.

FYI. Flying J just not import any Middle Eastern Oil.

And I quit taking orders when I got out of the Army back in "63"

Probably the reason why I have been divorced twice since then.

I have earned the right to be cranky if I want.

And RV parking spaces close to the entrance to Denny's restaurants.

Not like those other truck stops where you got to park on the back 40.

UMMmmmm - that "not much difference $20" would buy a pretty decent meal for a couple at most sit-down restaurants in the Denny's class - but then, we've been so effectively brain washed related to fuel prices, that we have pretty well totally forgotten that $20 USED to fill up our passenger car fuel tanks, to the point that NOW, $20 seems trivial and not worthy of much consideration.

That was a good comeback for my thread comment. I didn't realize that I had misspelled Triker, oh well, that one backfired ! I was wondering how long they were going to let us jab at each other. Yes you do have the right to be cranky and thats fine with me. Enjoy your travels and be safe.
