I have seen various vehicles 'crash tested' in You Tube videos. While they do serve the purpose of building safer vehicles, have wondered why they don't do more real world types of tests such as high speed(or even low speed) rollovers and multi vehicle accidents. The IIHS seem to think that all crashes are small overlap crashes against a solid wall instead of against another vehicle that will partially deflect and reduce severity.
Of course there are bridge abutments and ends of jersey barriers that are hit and don't move but are they the norm vs a single vehicle rollover or a heavy sideswipe where both vehicles are deflected, reducing the damage potential?
Oh and I too feel safer in my Ford SD pulling a 5th wheel. At least I wont be the second object after the front bumper that meets that oncoming object at a combimed rate of high speed. And if my truck rolls over, I wont have all my MH furniture stacked on me and mine.

I have always sorta worried about this, thus my class A was a Blue Bird and my current one has the motor in front of us.

I don’t want my previous post misconstrued. I go to traffic accidents for a living, and do it next to one of the most traveled roads by RVs in the country. I have been to Class A accidents, Class C accidents, and towable accidents.
For me and my family, it’s a truck/trailer combo. And not because I think we are invincible in one. The reason is actually twofold. First, if I purchased a Class A, it would be on a bus-style chassis. Many people would be surprised at how little goes into the construction of the passenger area on most high-end Class As. If it’s built on an Evolution, Liberty, Roadmaster or similar you have a sled assembled by the truck builder with a passenger compartment built by the same crew that forgot to connect your toilet line to the black tank. They are not inherently dangerous, but I would prefer a bus chassis. One notable exception is a brand I will never be able to afford, and that would be a Newell.
I want to emphatically point out that I also will no longer ride a motorcycle. There is nothing wrong with those that do. My point is we all have our comfort zone with regards to risk. I have mine, others have theirs. Live and let live.
Secondly, one of the big selling points of a Class A is the ability to move about the coach while underway for bathroom breaks, snack prep and the like. These are activities I would not want my family performing at 60+ mph on the highway. So traveling in a truck eliminates that issue. A Class A is a possibility for us, but not while we travel with the kiddos.

I drove a cab over truck for more than a million miles of my career, still ride my motorcycle and I certainly can't afford a Prevost. Looks like I will have to continue living life one day at a time because I'm damn sure not going to sit in my house for the rest of my days. This is not meant to criticize those that feel differently but I just can't live worrying about what might happen tomorrow

Yup.. snap the king pin or rip the mounting bolts out of the hitch in the pickup bed, then 5'r over runs the cab of pickup... not pretty..
