Forest Service Proposing to Eliminate Senior and Disabled Discount!

I copied this link and text from another site so members here could take a look at this proposed change. This would really hurt Senior's and the disabled at a time when we are taking hits for everything else too.

"Well, not totally eliminate. Just reduce to 10%. For concessionaire campsites, which in reality will mean almost all the major recreational Forests in the system! This is huge. This will be followed by the NPS and BLM.

Time to nip this in the bud right now. Write your elected officials NOW and spread the word.

Here is the link to the official notice."

If the USFS is successful in doing this, I'll bet the other federal agencies that have concessionaire operated campgrounds (and that's most of them now) will quickly follow suit.

National Park campgrounds operated by concessionaires have already eliminated the discount, so this was bound to happen.

If this happins that will end my camping; even with the 50% its a struggle to keep camping, with the cost of liveing keeps going up. SS remains at

If the government can spend billions on a no win war; why are they trying to take this from us old folk?

I believe the slogan was,."..........change we could live with" I now question the "live with" part.

AH WELL - this won't affect the "Walmart campers" any...

Unless State and local governments wake up to a possible revenue stream they have so far been ignorant of - wait'll California's "Governator" and other states wise up...

Just when I was getting to the age where I could enjoy a few benefits of being older. Being on the leading edge of the baby Boomers is not good at all.

In this official notice is a link to a comments site. I hope everyone will take the time to go there are leave your comments about this proposed plan!

Whoever thought of this certainly isn't seeing the big picture! If we cannot use our Golden Age Passport (now called the Senior Pass) for half-price camping at USFS campgrounds, we will not stay at those campgrounds. That means that instead of receiving 50% of the camping fee from us, the USFS will now receive ZERO percent from us!

"dad gummit"

We'll soon have a surcharge (more than currently charged) to drive on the federally funded highways that are in dire need of repair.

We and only we rvers can start a movement to stop this nonsense. I've already written my senators and representatives. I hope you will do the same.

It has been many years since NPS concessionaires allowed the discount at least that I am aware of. Some do choose to accept the card for the discount but I remember being in my 40s and with a couple who could not get the discount at a concessionaire park.

That doesn't make this right but I'm sure gave them ammo in their guns. I don't stay at NPS parks who choose not to honor the discount and will no longer stay in NFS lands either. Like was said before we need to be contacting the NFS and our representatives in Congress. As a community together we have a great voice.
