Fresh, onboard water

Two questions, we have never used our fresh water tank but will soon. Do I need to sanitize the tank first? Our rig is a 2014 Ventana. Also, can we use our washing machine not having shore water? The fresh water tank is rated at 104 gallons. Thanks for any help....

Yes to both questions. Just be wise as to how much laundry you do before dumping and filling.

Happy trails,

Personally, we sanitize tank with bleach before using.

Our whirlpool fills 1/3 of the grey tank in about two-average sized loads on normal cycle and with less-than-recommended soap. YMMV

The above just about covered it. Except for one thing, if your washer dryer is/are vented yes, if not the invented will use way too much water to dry. But one could run the washer and if a place is available use a clothesline to dry.

Vent-less dryers aka Condenser dryers use either air or water for heat exchange. A condenser dryer using air would blow the heat into the RV so they use water to cool the heat exchanger.

It's a difficult dryer to appreciate.

If you've never filled your fresh tank - I'd certainly sanitize it according to your owner's manual before I used it. We typically sanitize our fresh tank as part of the "de-winterization" process - and then again a couple of time throughout the season depending on how much the coach gets used. The more we use the coach - the less we sanitize it (since there's a constant turnover of fresh water).

As far as using your washer when you're not connected to city water / sewer - just know that it draws fresh water from your tank and dumps it into your holding tanks. According to the specs - our Splendide 2100XC (vented) combo unit uses 7.5 - 16 gallons of water per load (depending on the cycle selected and the size of the load). If you assume 10 gallons per load - 2 loads translates to roughly 20% of the typical 100 gallon source/holding tank system. If your system capacities and dump/refill plans allow it - there's no reason NOT to use the washer. You just gotta know your system!
