Fuel injector module for GM 6.5 diesel
I understand that if the fuel injector module in a diesel engine fails, the engine is totally inoperative. Does anyone here know where I can purchase a spare module for a 1997 GM 6.5 L diesel engine in a Safari Trek?

When we had our 1995 6.5 TD TREK, I paid the few bucks to belong to The Diesel Pages TheDieselPage.com Forums - Powered by vBulletin This is a great source of information and there is a specific sub-forum for the 6.2 and 6.5 diesels. Instead of carrying a spare PMD, they recommend using a remote mount and wiring harness to reduce the heat that can cause this component to fail.
Also, if you haven't already done this, join the TREK Tracks forum http://www.nwtfc.com/forum/active.asp

I had a Trek with the 6.5 diesel. This is a great source of help and parts. Walt, the owner, is very responsive and knowledgeable.

If you are asking about the PMD, it is a high fail item. The problem is it's in a very hot position and the heat kills it. If yours is orginal and/or in the stock location - it will very likely fail. See the replacement PMD and heat sink and how to relocate on Walt's site I listed previously. Easy to install.

Correct regarding PMD heat-related failure. The original poster hasn't responded, and maybe we went over his head with the terminology and we're just talking to each other. A PMD is a Pump Mounted Driver for the Stanadyne injection pump used on the GM 6.5L Turbodiesel engine. This pump was so unreliable that GM extended the warranty for 120,000 miles, or 11 years. I had one replaced under warranty, then had to pay for another. It has been said that sometimes the injection pump was replaced when only the PMD needed replacing, but re-positioning the PMD is said to add significant life to this component.

Paul Burns over in the UK has this problem all diagnosed and has some recommendations to fix it. I published his findings on my web site in the Tech Tips section under item 41.
