I have a 1998 Discovery. Was just there running the engine for a while. Suddenly the fuel light came on and the fuel gauge stopped working. Anyone have an idea what happened. My guess is fuse, but where to find it.

Could you provide some more info on your coach, different chassis manufacturers supplied different gauge set ups , and knowing if your coach is on a Freightliner; or other brand ; chassis, will help members provide better answers.

The info I have on gauge testing and wiring diagrams are for 99>02, so may not be of any help.
But if you call , Freightliner's , free help line , with you serial number, they should be able to provide the info you need for testing.

While talking with them , inquire about joining , Access Freightliner, for on-line access to parts and repair info specific to your chassis.

Just a thought, you may want to look across the top of your fuel tank to see if you have rodent damage to the wiring to the fuel tank sending unit.
Here is the info I have for gauge testing, but as you can see on the first page, it is for newer chassis.

First place I would look is at the fuel sensor wires on top of the fuel tank. Depending were and how you fuel tank is attach to the frame, could be hard to get at. If your in a area where the weather vary from below 32 to plus 32 degree, this will create condensation on electrical connector especially if you have power on. Also if your MH is in storage in this type of variable weather, it really not a good idea to start it, cold to warm weather create a lot of condensation in the engine block, and went you start it you just put all that condensation in the oil and all through the engine bearing. Just running a diesel engine on fast idle will take at less one hour to come hot enough to evaporate that condensation and until that time water spot will attach itself to the bearing and over time will fail. We call this premature Bearing Failure due to contamination.
