Galveston State Park - We knew rain was coming but ....

Holy Cow, what a night . Hail, rain, wind out of nowhere My 32 foot travel trailer was moved about 4 feet due to the wind or twister or whatever the heck that was and hit the rear of my truck. We felt our TT lift at one point buy there was nowhere to escape. We ( me, wife, and 7 year old) all just huddled on the floor. Sparks were flying from The electric poles. Man, this was like an amusement park ride! I have been through many hurricanes in my life and was really never scared, but that night I can honestly say I was shaken up.

I am bringing the truck in for repairs and having the RV inspected, visual damage shows a bunch of dents in the RV but I need to get the roof checked out, water came in from behind the fridge and I want to make sure all is well, get the jacks replaced. Hopefully that is all the RV Damage.

After the storm all of the RV'ers came checking on each other which I thought was pretty cool. Campers Care !

Needless to say and lesson learned, be weary of the weather and understand it can change in a moments notice, it sure did for us. This weather was not foretasted in any shape form or fashion. Also, no matter what, keep your Tow Vehicle Fuel at all times, you never know when you may need to make a break for it.

Oh yeah, I have this pretty Honda Generator that I bought for the camper, guess what I didn't bring with us on this trip along with all of the hundreds of flashlights that I keep at my house.

Open to suggestions.

P.S. Kudo for Galveston State Island Park for getting the power back on in only few hours.

I'm 14 miles from Galveston and did not feel what you described, but then I'm in the Sticks & Bricks.

I have been in 52 mph winds, pulled the slides in and said a few faithful words.

Glad all you had was some dings and "dangs."

Happy trails.

We're 40 miles from Galveston and didn't have any bad weather either. Very odd. (I'm glad we didn't because it sounds scary!)

Galveston Island, Texas, land of 1,000 stop lights! The company that has GI's traffic light contract must be full of millionaires...I've never seen so many lights!

Did that in our '97 Type B MH on the OR coast in '97. Hard to sleep when the rig is threatening to turn over! When we opened the door in the morning we found that our site was the low spot and we were in a lake! Dogs needed out and the water was deeper than our Maltese was high so I waded in!

Funny part ( well not really funny) there were some boy scouts camping about 50 yards from us and their tents got wet but did not get blown away. They all huddled in their Scoutmasters vehicles and rode it out.

Go to Galveston Island State Park on Facebook and they talk about it.

It was odd.

We had family at a beach house a couple of miles away on the west end and they said it didnt even rain there

Today, June 1st is the official start of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season. 30-day Countdown to the 2013 Hurricane Season Begins May 2 | FEMA.gov
If you're traveling about in Florida or along the Gulf, it is handy to have a Weather Band Radio and NOAA App on your smart phone.

I am staying on the beach sites at the Galveston Island State Park...made reservations today from June 9-13 of 2015. The family is all coming down from Ks and renting a beach house 2 miles away and thought I'd ask if there's anything special I should bring to be on the beach for 4 days?

Looking forward to it, but scared of weather/wind/rain/flooding from this thread...!
