Gas Onan 5500 genset

We are on the tail end of our 5700 mile vacation and have found that we are running the genset a LOT. Probably 18hrs a day and that's just to give it break.

What is the max constant run time?we have been running 12 hrs at night then an hour break in the morning then back on for 6 to 8 more hrs of driving. Is this a concern? Average day temps have been 95plus

They are built to run constantly and as long as you are changing the oil and filters at the proper intervals you are fine.

We have run ours for over 4 days straight. Oil change is 150 hrs so that would be a little over 6 days. I have used Onans with over 4500 hrs with minor mtce.

I had a friend who boasted that his Onan only had 14hrs on it. This cost him over $1K in repairs.

Oil Change

I would like to start doing my own oil changes on my 5500. Directions and videos look clear. What do I do with the used oil? Us to do my own cars years ago. I put the oil in the new oil container and the garbage man took the. Today, oil is not allowed.

Many auto part stores will take your used oil & filters and recycle. I take mine back to the same place that I get my supplies from. Also most citied will have oil recycling locations. I use a 5 gal gas can to transport my used oil. The fire station close to me has a large oil recycle tank. I use that for my oil. I assume they make money selling the oil.

Isn't it really dangerous to run the generator while sleeping? Does your rig have a cutoff if there's CO detected?

Our CO detector is in the Bed Room. Carbon Monoxide is deadly whether awake or sleeping. Your unit should be in good running order and a window could be cracked to let in fresh air.
