Gas Price App

In case you have not seen it, (and I have not seen any mention of it here) I thought I would pass along info about an app that I've been using for over a year now called Gasbuddy. (Gasbuddy.com)

This is a great idea that gives users the ability to post current gas prices, and in turn you can look up to see what the going rate is for where you want to get some fuel. For example, today when I needed to fill up the gas stations at the corner I was at were around $2.27/gal. Using Gasbuddy I found a station a mile up the road that was at $2.07.

The great thing about this is if it is used to a significant degree, it will be a great marketing equalizer to help put downward pressure on retail gas prices.

They have a website, and apps for your phone or iPad.

And no, I have no affiliation with them, just thinks its a useful tool!

Yep ... we use Gas Buddy to identify potential fuel stops ... once ID, we then look examine the station using the Googlemaps Satellite view to see if we'll fit! We usually start planning the next fuel stop when the needle hits the 1/2 full mark ... and try to never let it hit the 1/4 full mark. Once we hit 1/4 tank mark - neither the generator or the Aquahot will work. We avoid having those systems "unavailable" because of low fuel to the extent we can ... you just never know what may happen!

I've been using Gasbuddy for ~10 years and it has saved me a lot of money during that time. While on the road, knowing the route we will take, I go to the map and follow the route we planned. I will then note the locations of the cheapest diesel/gas. If it appears there is a long stretch with higher prices I will actually top off at the lower price and then drive till we get back into lower price range.

On a daily basis I will also use, if driving into the "big city" I'll check prices and top off my gas tank.

We also use Gas Buddy...I use my husband's account to help log prices. He's been a Gas Buddy spotter for almost 11 years now. But since he does the driving most of the time, I have the app on my phone with his account.

If you didn't know.....Gas Buddy also has photos of many of the stations which can help you determine if you'll fit.

Another happy user here.

Before a trip I take a look at the "Gas Price Heat Map" and look for the lower price areas. For example, on a trip from FL to NC, I notice that SC is "cooler" than NC. I then "zoom in" on the map along my route and find the best prices in SC just before I cross into NC. Right now Regular Gas in Cheraw, SC (a bit south of the NC border) is 1.99. In NC, along my route the best price is 2.13. Diesel at the same two places is 1.99 and 2.14 respectively.

Your post made me go look at GasBuddy again. I couldn't find anything in the app that would show me any pictures ... however, I did find option to show me any station I select in Googlemaps. Once there - I can flip to the Googlemaps satellite view.

Is this what you mean by "photos"? Or am I missing something? I'm using
GasBuddy v.3.3.0 ...

Super app. When we on a road trip (a lot of the time), the last thing I do before we leave in the morning - check Gas Buddy along my route. We normally travel about 250-300 miles per day. Fill up early, fill up late - always got the cheapest. in aour car at 21 MPG no big deal. In our coach at 7 MPG and an 80 gal tank BIG DEAL.

GREAT APP.

The reason that NC prices are so much higher than SC prices is the difference in fuel tax rates between the two states.
