Valero gas pumps do not allow a second swipe. Usually we go in and give the card to the clerk and then the cut-off does not happen. It is a credit card company measure to minimize how much a thief can pump with a stolen credit card. Needing a PIN would help but the credit card companies in the USA have no need to be proactive.

This is NOT a credit card company policy, as explained in previous posts, it is station policy, or the company who processes payments for the station. I have PenFed, and always notify them when we're planning a MH trip, as we will be spending large amounts of money on fill ups in a short period of time. We still get the shutoffs, varying between $100 to $150 limit, depending on the gas company used.
And I have found CC companies to be VERY proactive when it comes to security. Both times that we've had cards compromised they notified us before we even knew there was a problem. They have a lot more to lose in fraudulent transactions than we do; the consumer's liability is limited to $50. I've never even had to pay that, both PenFed Visa and Discover covered that too.

Doesn't work that way at the Fling J or the Pilot in west Phx.

In this day and age, anyone who leaves their credit card unattended at a gas station is just asking for trouble.

I can pretty much figure how many gallons our DSDP will need, so I'll just go in and charge that amount, it may not be a complete fill, but it's close enough. We also keep our bank up to date on our travel plans so we don't worry about a card shut off. We pretty much give them a 6-8mos. itinerary and it takes care of any problems that might arise.

Question about the PenFed Visa card.
If you're at a truck stop and filling up at the truck diesel pumps (NOT using the diesel nozzle at the gas pumps out front) can you swipe the PenFed card SEVERAL times to fill up a MH? I usually try to fill up soon after the gauge says 1/2 full, which takes around $250 in fuel. Thanks!
