Once they let people back in which should be by the weekend, the BEST way to help the area is to support the businesses that are open again. That area depends on tourist dollars...

Works on the radio, not on TV as TV is a visual presentation. No pictures, no story for them.

On a serious note, does it really matter? If somebody not tied to the other area had not recognized something and told us would it make any difference? Buildings burning in the woods pretty much look alike.

If you think the media was honest just consider the coverage around the recent election...

Just watched the last scheduled news conference. They are reporting now that +1000 structures were impacted, most of which were destroyed.

Here is a map that shows the extent of the damage and where a structure was partially or fully destroyed.

Public Information Map

They are now able to show more photo's of the extent of the damage. Really hate to see this.

I agree with a previous post, if you want to support Gatlinburg plan on going back for a visit since tourism is their bread an butter. Given time I believe the community with come back stronger then before.

I was planning on heading there next April and I still will as soon as I can make my reservations. Will the campgrounds be up and running at that time?

I think most of the RV parks got spared. I would give them a week or two & call. Inside the park, Elkmont and Cades Cove are both ok.

My brother in law and Sister in law had a 2nd home in Murphy, NC and we were always invited a couple times a year. We went to the park and all the surrounding areas, What a beautiful part of America.

Prayer's to all those affected.
