Generator

I hope someone can help me with this question. I use a generator to power my air conditioner while camping. When the generator runs out of gas it starts surging with wild rpm swings. It does this for 15 or 20 seconds before it stops. Can this damage my air conditioner or generator?
I'm using a Boily 3600 inverter generator. I'm concerned about low voltage, high current. Or does the inverter stop that from happening?

The inverter probably means it don't get much swing in frequency but voltage might. For that brief a period I doubt that it harms much but it could if done often enough or enough times. I would do my best to not allow it to happen, but if it does on rare occasions I'd not loose sleep over it.

there should be something in your owners manual to address that. My generator that I keep for the house says to disconnect the load before it runs out of fuel. It is just a 3000 watt gen for appliances in the house and some lights.

It's probably not good for the electronic systems in thermostat and the air conditioners. Why not set an alarm clock for a little short of a full tank of gas run time? When the alarm goes off, shut down the electrical systems, turn off generator, and refuel. ...Or add a larger gas tank.
