Cool Generator problem

My 5500 marquis gen will not start. Where is the fuel pump located? Does it push or pull into the fuel filter?

Not sure of the fuel pump location, but is your fuel tank above 1/4? most onboard generators won't run below 1/4 tank. They don't want you stranded.

Fuel pump is on bottom of unit near back. If I remember correctly, filter screws into it. has two wires coming off it usually one black and one brown

Bob,

The fuel pump is right under the left front corner and the fuel filter is attached forward of that at the carb input. I just replaced mine 6 months ago. They get hot and then stop pumping fuel. Mine would start and run about a minute then stop. Another cause could be old fuel or low fuel as stated above. Also I got my fuel pump on Amazon.com and it was a direct replacement.

Good luck.

The Diesels have a self diagnostic system, I'm not sure about the gasoline models.

On my onan 5500, the fuel line goes from the tank to the filter then the filter screws directly to the pump then a line out of the pump to the carb.

Slide under the left side of your gen and look up, you will see the fuel pump. its held in with two bolts. You should be able to change it out in under 10 minutes. Im pretty sure the older marquis is the same as the newer 5500
