Generator Surge Protection

I have a friend that lost his TV when his generator malfunctioned and created a surge. I have a Progressive Industries portable surge guard that protects my RV while hooked to shore power, but since it only protects at the power pedestal, I am unprotected if my generator were to surge as my friend’s did. The best protection is a hard wired surge guard that is wired in after the generator transfer switch, but I didn’t want to replace my portable surge guard so I looked for an alternative.

I have most of the electronics in my entertainment cabinet plugged into a surge guard power strip, but my front TV has it’s own outlet. There are other items unprotected such as the microwave and the refrigerator. Looking for an easy and inexpensive solution, I came across the below single outlet surge guards on Amazon. They get good reviews and are quite small. At $7.44 per unit they are cheap insurance. I bought several to protect my other TV’s and all of my appliances. This may not be as good as a hard wired surge guard, but it does give me some protection against a generator surge.

HERE is a link to the Amazon listing.

I carry one in my laptop briefcase, use it every time the laptop is plugged into an outlet.
