Generator Tune Up Options

Just took delivery on a used MH with a Onan Marquis Gold 5500 gen. Looking to tune it up, I see kits available but imagine that I can do it cheaper by using non cummings oil, etc. Concerned that the oil filter maybe specific to the gen. Is there another brand oil filter like Purolator, Fram, etc that this unit can use? What are the options?

Thx

There are many cross-reference filter websites available, try entering the Cummins filter number into Google and see what turns up. Is it a gas, diesel, or LP generator? If gas, I'd certainly treat it with SeaFoam to help clean it out. New plugs and wires might also help it. Make sure the oil you use exceeds the requirements of the generator.

Going cheap to maintain an engine can sometimes return to bite you, make sure you take care of the engine so it will take care of you.

When looking for Onan genset Parts you need some specific information to get the correct parts.
The model number and spec number. Mine happens to be on the air filter cover.
I have a 2001 Onan Marquis Gold 5500 Gas.
Model HGJAB-901A Spec: A

Onan Air Filter 0140-3116 Wix 49087
Onan Fuel Filter 0149-2629
Onan Oil Filter 0122-0836 Wix 57398
Onan Fuel Pump 149-2620 Airtex E11015
Onan Spark Plugs 0167-1638 NGK BPR4EY

Hope this helps. If not, then maybe it will help someone else.
Good luck

What year is the coach ?
Be sure to service the spark arrestor. The oil filter has a bypass for cold starting make sure the non oem filter has this feature.
