Alot has to do with cost. My MH for instance was made before quiet generators. The cost to change that would be outragous. I would think a 2011 would be quietier than mine, but I guess what do you consider loud? I don't pay any attention to mine when I run it at a campground.

Some of the newer models are very quiet, I have an 8 KW Quiet Diesel Onan, and it is.

The Cummins gen set in my Monaco is very quiet, matter of fact I've walked off and forgotten that I've turned it on before...It's a 12.5 KW diesel.

Yamaha makes small gensets that compare favorably to the Hondas, model for model. My big Onan 7.5kw Quite Diesel is, well, pretty quiet, also.

Most inverter-type generators are relatively quiet because they can run at lower RPMs when the load is light.

The on rig gas generators are often much louder than the Diesel onboard generators. I love how quiet mine is.

My 8KW on-board Onan diesel is a bit louder than my Honda EU3000is, but routing the exhaust to a vertical stack quiets it down.

What's the noise level difference between a honda 2000 and a Onan 8000? Does size make a difference? My Jeep v-6 is much quiter than my 400 hp Detroit.

Read the specs of different brands of generators, some are very quiet. Boliy 3600 for instance, bests a Honda 3000 in virtually all areas, including db level.
Contractor generators are very loud, they are not meant to be used where noise is an issue.
