Have had several friends get body work done in Algodones. Work was fast and economical and looked fine. Have not seen the units recently as they were sold.

IMO if you find the right shop you will get good work, if not you may not get as good. Sort of like going to any shop in this country.

Issue in my mind is more likely the language barrier.

I grew up in Chula Vista, spent some time in TJ. Had cars upholstered, exhaust systems, detailing. Bring your own oil and filter, LOF for a buck, 50 cent for a flattop DA haircut. You could get a car sanded to bare metal for a few dollars and a case of coke (Coca Cola)

You are probably right about it being a bunch of BS. I grew up on OK/TX border on I-40 and our parents probably started the rumor to keep us from driving down to Mexico. I hope your folks are enjoying the golf course at Stathams Landing. We have lived here since 1983.

My very first car was a Porsche 356SC that was a rust bucket when I purchased it when I was 14 in high school. My father and I completely tore it apart and completely restored it. In 1982 we drove it to Tijuana and had new leather seats and door panels, (and a new headliner too), custom made with original specification black leather that I had brought with me from Los Angeles.

They did an absolutely beautiful job. Even the Porsche dealers and collectors that saw the car thought the leather upholstery was OEM.

I looked in a coach while in Puerto Penasco that just had some wood work done. The owner ask me to tell him what was done and I couldn't tell original from what was added. Very nice work that would have cost 3-4 times as much here in the states.

I have had clear coat repaired in PP and the job was excellent. Cost me 800 and in the states the estimate was 2500
