We will be moving back to Fort Bragg, NC in November. My wife thought we should live in the RV for 2-3 months while looking for a home. It will be the three of us (7 yr old) and a small dog. Should be interesting.

I've been searching for campsites with a monthly rate. The KOA doesn't allow children so they won't receive any money from me. I've found a place in Moore County but so far th base campgrounds look the best due to location. We will be able to save a grand per month based of what they give me for a housing allowance. If it was just the two of us, we would continue to full time.

I lived in the area for 18 years and the wife is from NC so I guess we are returning home. We are ready to say goodbye to the Washington DC lifestyle.

Good luck to you! We bought our 32V southwind for the potential of the same thing happening, except we have two kids and two dogs! I will be looking at your updates with interest!

I feel the timing should make it more bearable with the little one. She will be in school during the weekdays and we will stay busy on the weekends lookng at houses. I think as long as we aren't sitting around we will be okay. Otherwise the confinement will be interesting.

You should have priority for staying long-term at the base CG. Safe, secure, and convenient to your work station. Good Luck, and thank you for your service and dedication!

A KOA that doesn't accept children??? They advertise themselves as a "family" campground...never heard of one that doesn't accept children! (Of course, we don't stay at KOA's, so maybe things have changed...a lot...since we last stayed at one.)

Ditto on the KOA.

We had a 2 month stay at the Wilmington NC KOA, got a good monthly rate and saw several folks doing the same w/ their kids.

Might check w/ them again to clarify. And make sure you tell them you are active military. You deserve special treatment for your service. Thanks!!

But my first choice would be anything on base.

The Fayetteville/Wade KOA's web site doesn't mention no kids and even has photos with kids at the pool. I would definitely give them a call to check if you are interested in staying there.

No matter where you end up, good luck!

I felt the same regarding the KOA. I called to obtain a monthly rate, explained that I was military returning to the area and that we had one 7 year old daughter who would be in school. I was told no kids for monthly rates.

I will ask them one more time before we move but that is what I was told.

That is strange. I am curious what the reasoning behind that is.

hey, good luck. We have lived long term in RVs while looking fro housing.
First was about 4 months in a 34' motorhome, no slides, 2 adults, 1 dog and 2 parrots
Second was 3 months, finding and remodeling a house, 2 adults, 1 dog and 2 parrots in a 36.5' 5er.
Third time as 51 weeks, building a house, same 5er, two dogs and 1 parrot.

Each time we got to wondering why we were bothering with a house. Wwe liked the RV living.

Best of luck to you.

Ken

Don't know about anyone else, but I will be contacting the KOA and KOA corporate to let them know how bad they look denying a monthly rate to one of our active duty military moving into the Fayetteville NC area....
